I use to play an EM game called Tropic Isle all of the time in 1970-1971. There were 5 balls and when you put in your nickel for a credit, pushed start, all 5 balls entered a tray, you then pushed in a lever and it raised a ball into the plunger lane to shoot. Yes, you could then raise another ball and shoot it, you could play all five balls at once. There were 5 lanes at the top and if you lit them all, the special lit and if you earned a special the special light stayed on. So we would play this game with one person flipping the flippers and another person skillfully shooting up balls to light the lanes. This way, on a good game, you could win 5 or more credits, the credit counter went to 15 (I think)
If the ball drained on the left outlane, you could bump the table when the ball hit the drain wall and it would bounce up for a chance to save it with the flippers. Great fun. We use to also play this game a lot with one guy playing each flipper.
I canīt remember the names of the first tables I played, but they definitely had the same caracteristics.
I can still hear the noise of the lever used to push up the balls, as well as the noise of the balls "flowing" to the tray, Some
VP recreations reproduce this very well.
Experienced players were able to coordonate the gesture so that raising the ball to the plunger lane & shoot it would be done in one soft movement, two fingers pushing the lever & two pulling the plunger, ...straight to the lane to be lit!
I remember saving a lot of balls between the flipperd with a strong bump at the right moment.
After each ball we would look at the tilt mechanism to check if it wasnīt balancing too much. We would eventually wait a bit before shooting the next ball.
