Hello all,

I used Visual Pinball a few years back, and it looked great... Now, I'm coming back to it, and try to catch back... So, I downloaded a table at random (i picked Johnny Mnemonic table). After that, I've downloaded the rom necessary to Vpinmame, and put it into the rom folder. When I start the game, everything looks fine, and I have no warning telling me the rom are not loaded or in a bad place.

I have the visual from vpinmame, and it reacts properly... The only problem is that the sound from the rom is truly weak (I barely can hear them). So, I checked a little more deeper, and discovered that it was actually two sources of sound : one from the table itself (the designer put there some sounds like rolling ball, launching ball, bumpers and all sounds relative to the table in itself). And another source is from the rom (and thus played by vpinmame, containing all sounds relatives to targets hits commentaries and such)... If I made a mistake this far, feel free to correct me ;-)

Knowing that, I must say that the table sounds are at my convenience and work perfectly. I can then exclude beeing my computer sound configuration. But all the sounds from the rom are almost not to be heard.

Did I missed something in setting up the vpinmame setup ? Should I crank up something somewhere to be able to hear those sounds ? I also don't know about any other tables, I only tried that one so far, and tried making it work...

Any idea on how to solve that ? Or is it just a bad luck I picked a table with weak sounds ?

Thanks anyhow on your help

PS : I got that on vp 8 (not tried vp9 yet)

Edit : As there is no answer yet (normal, that's a bit fast)... I edit this message : I finally got to hear the sound by putting speakers to max, and cranked down the sounds from the table inside visual pinball to a near minimum... Don't know if that's a normal procedure though..; :s

Hello vampyre,

find volume setting procedures for many table brands here: http://www.vpforums....u...at&cat_id=2 .
For JM (and all Bally/Williams WPC games) it is as follows:
start game, don't launch ball
press <End> key until the DMD displays 'Coin Door Open'
press <9> key to increase volume to your liking (don't go higher than approx. 26, otherwise sound may be distorted)
press <8> key to lower volume
press <7> key to escape
start game

hello!

i'm new here, and just downloaded medieval madness for vp

i noticed sound is too quiet and i tried to do as you say - press END at start, but coin door didn't open

when i press 7,8,9 or 0 nothing happens, besides message "open door to use coin buttons".

i tried to press END after starting game and right after pinball startup test, all the same - no effect.

i also tried to remap coin door button in case it's my keyboard problem, but no, it's not.

what could it be? maybe i do something wrong?

thank you

It's working on mine. Once the game is running and the DMD has gone into attract mode press the END key one time. The DMD should show the following message;

COIN DOOR IS OPEN

COILS AND FLASHERS ARE DISABLED

Then you can use the 9 key to increase volume and 8 to decrease. The DMD should display a slide meter to show volume level.

Make sure under the PREFERENCES\KEYS selection in the editor on the right side under PinMAME buttons you have Door(END), Down(8) and Up(9)

also don't forget that most vp8 tables do NOT work in vp9

play only vp9 pins with the vp9 editor or else you'll have all sorts of odd problems

glad ya' fixed your sound problem though!!

another note for future readers: if you're using a VP9.1.6 or VP9.2.0 build, there is also the other-way-round option to make the VP sounds (slingshots, flippers, etc) more silent by setting the sound parameters in the table options to something less than 100.

Currently i remove all the sounds from all tabled except ball rolling, coin, spinner, kicker enter, analog plunger and 1 or 2 i forgot but the rest i remove them because the contactors emulates them. Especially with DOF where i can play with intensities to have different power sounds for bumpers, targets or drop targets.
Wish there was a way to remove all these sounds in a more easy way
