File Name: vpPlus 1.4

File Submitter: rascal

File Submitted: 18 Mar 2010

File Category: Frontends and Addons

vpPlus is a set of extensions for Visual Pinball.

It includes network play, modal graphic image display, and decals which support both alpha transparency and animated GIF formats. It also has a chat feature and mouse click event images. There is a resource embedder for storing your images and other files that the table can use. It can be password protected.

Version 1.3.0 has been recompiled with VS 2008 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 support. It has been tested to work with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 both 32 and 64 BIT.

UPDATE: Now includes a setup.exe that should be run on Windows 7 machines to allow for the dll to be registered.

NEW: version 1.4.0 - slight compile update, has not been tested on window 10, but needs .NET Framework 3.5 (maybe 4.0 in this build I can't remember).

Now we need author's support in order for vpPlus to be a success. In order for a table to be netplay compatible, there has to be added scripting done to the tables. vpPlus comes with a Developer's Documentation which explains the script objects and their function calls necessary to make vpPlus tables. The document is broken down into four sections of objects, vpNetPlay, vpImage, vpDecal, and vpResource. The demo table that comes with vpPlus is a fully functional demo of all that vpPlus has to offer and has well commented script. Feel free to use the demo as a template (mod it) or as a guide to create your own table.

We need some brave people to give it a go. We are fairly sure that vpPlus will work with all ROMless tables such as originals and recreations of EM tables. It may even work with VPM tables, but none of us on the vpPlus team have tried. The only drawback that we can think might hamper VPM tables is not being able to get a handle on the score and random events that a ROM program may have built in. I would like to see an early SS attempt before moving on to more complex ROM tables. Now that VP and vpinmame are open sourced, maybe some or all of these limitations can be overcome, but first it needs interest and people willing to dive in.

When building a netplay table it is helpful and necessary to have two computers on a LAN for play testing. Preferably close together. A PC and a laptop would do it.

cool.gif I think this has a lot of potential. I hope there are some authors out there who would like to implement it into their originals.

You have to try vpPlus out to find out how much fun it already is with the available tables and the additional chat feature. You compete against a friend you made here at VPForums or against anyone else you know and the fun is already there, just only because it's a competition. The game/table itself doesn't really matter. And the chat lets you try to distract your opponent from being concentrated to the game. Yes, it's great fun.

Possible complaints about missing (vpm) tables are absurd, because vpPlus is already a great addon for VP, but it's still in developement and it needs all thinkable support.

Thanks to the developers for make all this possible. Who knows what's all available if developent makes the next step? So please all support this!

Well I just got done playing my first game of VP+ with Rascal. Wow!, What an awesome addition to VP. I had some problems before when I tried it a few months ago when I was using the RC1 version of Windows 7 64.

Now I have the retail version and everything worked right off the bat. You really do have to try VP+ out. It's really fun playing online with a friend.
And it's also fun to watch the other person play.

Well I'm off to download more VP+ tables.

@KEG: Thanks for the fun we had playing two different tables.

@ all: Win7 64bit on both sides, one with vp+ 1.2 (KEG) and one with vp+ 1.3 (me) worked (not perfectly, but worked).
