I had two ATI 4850 cards with 512mb each in crossfire mode that I got rid of and replaced with a single nvidia gt240 w/1Gb... I can't see myself switching back to ATI at this point, no matter how good anyone says it is. (except if eyefinity allows spanned display mode in Windows 7)

Hmpf. Guess I have to wait until the drivers come out for XP, then.

That's great news, it would be very interesting to get more experiences. I'm about to upgrade and Ati has the more appealing solution for me but I have been limited to look at Nvidias offering because of vp. Dual card solutions such as crossfire and sli are more trouble than they're worth imo. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. But Ati users, would be great to hear a little more from you regarding this new driver.

It works on laptops with out needing to mod the drivers.

In windows 7 VP 9 is now fast with HD render on and slow with it off and my systems was fast in vista with HD on or off. VP 8 is fine.

Now that VP is open can we try to fix some stuff in the code?

I just ordered parts to build a computer for a cab, and ended up with a ATI 5770 since I got a hot deal on it, so this is good news for me. heh.

Got my stuff and built my setup - the ATI 5770 with the 10.3 Beta drivers is working fine for me in VP. No rendering problems, saves the DMD position ok, etc.

I notice it's for Windows 7/vista. It won't work for XP i guess.

Do they work with with FP in dual screen mode also? If the new ATI drivers are VP and FP compatible, that's a great reason to dump NVIDIA. I'm looking for a DX11 compatible card . . .

Yeah, no problems in FP at all so far, running on two monitors.

You say FP running on two monitors - in ArcadeMode?
With the beta driver? And in Windows 7? 32 or 64?

That would be cool, with nvidia I must go back to 185.85 to run it.
And VP runs too with this driver?

Thanks for your answer, when you say yes I would test a 5750/5770 again.

That are the best news, I read since days!
Then it is right, my 9800GT goes back to Ebay... I don't want to play other games on half fps - like Trainz (TS2010.com) - the 5750 have here double the fps.

Thank you very much for this answer, want to test it myself in some days.
Write a test then here too.

One other question, what have you changed in Future Pinball or Windows?
Is playfield and backglas in Full-Screen or Windowed?

Backglass is set to full screen in FP.

4850 here.

VP has worked just fine for me since 9.0.3.

Currently using 10.2 drivers. The only table I get glitches on is Cirqus Voltaire (FS and 4:3) - and they're very minor. Like a blitter issue...

The question that's been burning a hole in my brain - are GPU's with physics processing support, or PhysX cards ever going to be taken advantage of? The tech demo for NVIDIA's latest chipsets look like they're really trying to concentrate improving physics on GFX cards. And most of the newer ATI cards have built in havok support.
Pinball players do it by flipping their balls.

Thanks again
Fullscreen = windowed?
Backglas = fullscreen?

Or both fullscreen?

@diskoboy,
the programm must support physics.
I don't know is it included in VP or FP or not.

PhysX is NOT supported in either FP or VP. Maybe someday.

I reported a few weeks back about a tomshardware.com article that talks about that AWFUL performance in 2D apps (games) with 10.2 drivers & the one before that I think. However, I'm not sure if that issue was limited to the 5xxx series or not. But the article came out, I think, right before the release of 10.2 drivers, and it stated that ATI had responded to them that they did have a fix for these 2D issues, but it would take a couple driver releases for us to see it. So, assuming that 10.2 doesn't have this hotfix, 99% sure it doesn't, could 10.3 be the version with the 2D hotfix? It very well could be. I haven't tried 10.3, are they official yet?

Anyhow, when I got my 5870 (yeah its pretty sweet), I did benchmarks with 10.2. I reported notable performance improvements in both VP8 & 9 with the 5870 and 10.2 drivers over my Nvidia GTX280 OC card with NV's latest drivers. So my thought was, if I get this kind of performance improvement without the upcoming 2D fix...then what kind of further improvements will I see when the fix comes out in 10.3 or 10.4?

And I should note that the performance increases I saw with my 5870 (after being a nvidia guy for years) were astounding. At least considering in the past, VP performance never really changed much at all with any of my graphics cards. In fact VP always ran best on Intel onboard graphics. Then with 3rd party cards (nvidia), I would see a very slight dropoff, nothing major though. After all, VP is so extremely cpu dependent, never expect graphics cards to give it much of a boost.
So here I am trying to understand all this. Reportedly 2D performance is in shambles with 10.2 & earlier drivers, at least for the 5xxx series. Yet I see this huge performance boost. Nothing makes much sense. I bet ATI comes out with the 2D fix & I actually lose performance, it would only make sense!
I'm still looking for VP8 to run a bit better though, for some reason it chokes a bit, especially with ball antialias. Maybe it doesn't like all my fancy modern tech hardware?

Anyhow, point is, any new driver releases including this one are very interesting, cuz if they have the reported 2D fix, then people might be reporting some pretty impressive performance increases. Meanwhile, newer nvidia drivers seem to be going to crap for VP. However, their drivers are heavily dedicated to the latest 3D gaming, so to them, if a 10 year old 2D app loses performance, that is a little price to pay to have the latest money making games running at full speed. Yet if ATI is willing to make fixes today for 2D apps subsequent to complaints, why not nvidia?

Lastly, with my rig, there won't be a VP table I can't play no matter what is driving my graphics. This performance stuff is interesting, but as long as performance can stay about where it is (or gets better), then my main concern with ATI & VP, like many people, will continue to be BUGS & GLITCHES!
Nvidia has done very well in minimizing those. Nvidia does make good drivers as far as stability. But I do think ATI has a chance to, dare I say, bump Nvidia off the VP pedestal? Or at least stand alongside it! We'll see, with 10.3.

Btw, I'm such a geek. cool.gif
