Could one of the directB2S experts get permission from Pharaoh and Luvthatapex to create a directB2S version please?

Best Regards,
Todd.

I wasn't sure where the image came from and I didn't want to offend anyone or anyone to get upset if it gets rebuilt and proper credit is not given.

A table, God willing, I can get around to creating someday soon unless someone else is planning on this. Almost got things setup for getting lab work taken care of so I can get this brainfog crap treated so I can code again. :D

I could have been smart, but I never learned anything by being smart!

I hope I'm not on the naughty list. One of the things I've struggled with is knowing the right protocol for creating backglasses with the new tool. I tend to not ask for permission to use existing image files but I do try to remember to give credit when possible. I'm never quite sure if I should ask for permission first. The second concern I have is how much credit do I provide when I just take snippits from multiple images to create a new image. POTO is an example where there were three or four source material images that were used to create the resulting backglass.

Then there is the other concern which is modifications to backglasses that someone already developed. Do backglasses require the same level of permission as a table? If I find a better backglass image or more accurate lighting for a backglass published by others, do I update only my copy or do I share it with others?

My personal opinion is that any of the backglasses I've produced are distributed with the hope that others will find ways to make them even better. I have no concerns with modifications or any reuse of my work. After all, I didn't really create anything, the original table developers and backglass artists are the real ones to give credit. I've only tried to recreate or enhance the experience and artwork they initially developed.

First off, I don't maintain a "who's naughty/who's nice" list - I'm not the big, jolly man in the red suit.  I merely put that part about permission on my request for one reason only:

I respect everyone who's ever taken the time to create something for VP and shared it with us.

That's all - there was nothing between the lines to be interpreted here.

If you're feeling the slightest bit guilty about re-using/rebuilding something using materials that someone else spent hours, or days, or weeks or months creating and can't get permission from those parties, then don't upload it until you contact one of the admins here via PM.

It's all about respecting each other.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Todd.

No worries Todd. I didn't really think you had a naughty list.

I do think about the collaborative collective of this community and that is what draws me to this environment. I think all of the developers (table and backglasses) deserve admiration for their efforts. I've only experienced first hand the effort it takes to try to develop a quality animated backglass. Most of the time is spent in research and photoshop. The designer lets me combine these two elements and provides me the reward for my effort. I think this is minimal compared to the efforts of the table builders. I'm yet to have the courage to tackle this challenge.

One thought that does creep in to my mind occassionally is that I think it is funny how we sometimes worry about the Intellectual property of the virtual developers but don't worry about the same from the original IRL developers. Paul Faris created many of the beautiful backglasses we use in our recreations. I think he should be the first person I should ask for permission. Hopefully he feels honored to have his artistry kept alive. I would be saddened if he didn't.

When I'm in PS or Illustrator, I feel like someone maintaining a piece of art in a museum. I'm not taking credit for creating/recreating their art, I'm preserving it for future generations. I didn't create it, I simply did my best to maintain the existing artwork so it is represented as close to the original as humanly possible.
