First question: In some pinball videos I see people do micro flips by pressing the button really shortly. I'm having trouble doing this in VPX since even a short press fully extends the flipper. Are there settings I can tweak to make this a bit easier, or is this just one of those things that isn't really possible in virtual pinball? Or maybe I'm just a noob and I should practise this more?

I also wondered: Is it possible to move the ball around with your mouse, a la "hidden test" in Space Cadet? It would be cool to be able to do this to experiment with gameplay, and for practicing certain shots etc. But I couldn't find any way to something like this as of yet.

And my final question is if there's a good way to view the table's art and playfield. I know you can set up different camera angles, but is there some way to move the camera around in real time? And if I look at a table in the editor it doesn't show any of the art and 3d models. Would love to be able to view all the beautiful tables since so much time went into making them, and it's nice to actually be able to read what all the lights on the playfield say without having to look up pictures on Google.

1st question: Yes, you can do that on some tables, but not on all the tables. The table needs to have some extra code in the script to be able to do that. My tables tables have it, and VPW tables have it because they use nFozzy flipper's code. But you need a really good keyboard to handle that or you need a cabinet with really good buttons :) I can't do it on my keyboard, it is simply too slow and I need to press hard to activated, but I can do other tricks. But I can do flipper passes by nudging, but this again only will work on some tables, as here also the authors needs to adjust the nudging speed, and in most tables it is just too weak.

2nd question: Yes, no problem. Run the table, press D to open the debug window, then select "Ball control"

You may need to activated first the mouse to use it. I'm not sure if this is required, but I have it checked :) Do that in the editor, int the menu Preferences, Key Nudge and DOF:

3rd question: Yes/No, almost :) You can load the table in the editor, do not run the table, now press F7 and you'll start the "live-editor". You can't play the table, but you can zoom inn using the mouse wheel and you can change the view using a small cube at the top right of the screen. The feature you want has been asked and it may come in the next version 10.8.1 which is in the works.

By loading the table in the editor you can always select in the menu view, outline, and also view, Playfield image, and then you can check the playfield an read the light texts. You can zoom in by holding down the CTRL key and click on the table. You could also turn off all the layers at the right side of the screen to check better the playfield.

If you start with F6 from the editor you can fly.  The arrow keys with and without ALT plus the Z and / keys  and a bit of practice will have you flying loop da loops around the table in no time. Don't hit the 1 key during the flight or you'll lock-in your current aspect as your POV.  Use the flipper key to scroll to the smallest info box to expand your visibility :)
