Because "Windows," a minor glitch became a catastrophic crash in my VPin machine, causing the loss of all my boards (long story). Started from scratch with a new hard drive and a fresh install of (ugh!) Windows 11. Got the latest VPX8 installation, registered the B2S server, and here's where the trouble starts.

My VPin has one screen for the playfield and one screen for the backglass. I've noticed that if a backglass has a translite and a speaker grill for the speakers/score display/DMD, only the translite shows up on the backglass (where in the Before Time, both the translite and the speaker grill would be displayed so I could move the DMD into the spot where it belongs). Games like Hook, CFTBL, and Space Station are affected by this. Occasionally, an image with a Manufacturer's name or game name, or a stretched-out score display will appear near the top of the playfield sideways (never saw that before).

I've got a feeling that it's going to be something as simple as a flipped bit somewhere that's causing the lion's share of the issues, or I messed up something during the B2S system installation. Needless to say, I'm stymied.

Any help or pointers will be appreciated.

Hi

Press F1 to open ROM window setup

Uncheck "Cabinet Mode"

or

Run Vpinmame Setup,

press "default options"

Uncheck "cabinet Mode" for all ROMs

Run any DMD table.

Press ALT TAB to see where DMD is positioned. Drag to grill position. Right click to save the position on DMDdevice.ini

I supose that you are playing with DMD extensions.

It Works for me

You can enable the grilles by right clicking the backglass and in the dB2S dialogue setting Grille to Visible.
Not all backglasses have grilles though so you'll have to check in each case until you find one that looks right.
The other window with additional artwork or scores is called B2SDMD, again not all backglasses have them, this can be disabled in the same dialogue by setting B2SDMD to Hidden.

Gave the uncheck Cabinet Mode a try. All it really did was put up a huge "PinMAME" splash screen every time I loaded the board, which doesn't look all that great on my cabinet, and the grill section still wasn't visible. But, thank you for giving me a new angle to try!

This, setting the grill to "visible," should have been blindingly obvious to me, but it wasn't (I KNEW it was a flipped bit somewhere). I set the grill to visible, and there it was, score display and all! That being said, I was testing these settings on "Space Station" which has an alpha-numeric display in the grill area. Setting the B2SDMD to Hidden made the alpha-numerics in the grill area disappear. Not good if I want to keep score, so it stays Visible for now. I'll go back through my other boards that had the same problem and update them accordingly.

Thanks very kindly for the help!

Take in mind that Space station is kind of Solid State Pinball table.

You will need to use the BackGlass without full DMD for 2 screens player only.

Also you don´t need the virtual DMD or DMD extensions.

The Space Station BackGlass for 2 screens has own grill with score built in

Run the B2SScreenResIdentifier.exe in your tables folder. Delete the 3rd DMD screen setting as you only have a 2 screen cabinet. That will tell B2S to default to showing the grill area on the backglass

Thanks gtxjoe! That was the real bit I was looking for. I ran the identifier and saw where the selection was. Oddly enough, it had my system set as 3-screen, but that selection was greyed out. I set it to 2-screen, got some odd exception error, restarted the identifier, saw it was now 2 screen and saved it again. Oh, and a DMD window appeared on the 2nd screen as a drag and drop positioner. It looked to be in the right spot, so I let it be.

On reflection, I guess I should have read ALL the screens during setup to avoid this problem in the first place. That one's on me.

Thanks again!
