Pinball Lizard / Game Plan / IPD No. 1464 / June, 1980 / 4 Players

Notable Features:     Flippers (2), Pop bumpers (2), 4-bank drop targets (1), 3-bank drop targets (1), Kick-out hole (1), Spinning target (1). Hitting a drop target produces two short high-pitched electronic sounds, probably the lizard's yelp or cry.

Thank hmueck!  Anyone know why the rom and game are not populated in Vpinmame 3.6?  I am unable to uncheck the show external DMD box. Also can anyone confirm that the sound is the same tone throughout the game?   Thank you

Also can anyone confirm that the sound is the same tone throughout the game?

Press F6 and uncheck "Background sound (cancels scoring noise effects)".

Nowithstanding the limitations regarding the graphics this is a very playable game with good physics - a pleasant surprise out of the blue, so to say.

The ball sometimes lays there, but i can always nudge it free by pressing space.

Edit: i uploaded 1.0.1, which moves around a rubber and the gate, so the ball will no longer get stuck.

Lizard is in vpnmame 3.6 latest beta at the very top:

To disable the external DMD try pressing F1 while the table is running.

This monotonous tone is bad emulation of the table sound chip. In reality it's the lizard breething or something. Sounds much better in Youtube videos of the table.

As Albert wrote, "Press F6 and uncheck "Background sound (cancels scoring noise effects)".

I also added my nvram as attachment to the first post. It disables the background sound and enables free play.

Not completely correct. (Pinball) Lizard used a special PCB for the breathing/hissing sound (and related lamps) which doesn't seem to be emulated. These are not (directly) controlled by the ROMs. Hence, on a real machine you would always turn off the background sound (because the special PCB takes care of that) meaning that you do hear the scoring noise effects. I guess that they didn't care to add the scoring noise effects to the background sound setting, since it would never be used. Note the error in the manual, stating that the specific switch should always be turned on, which was true for all of their other games without this special PCB.

Is there a digital font available for the score displays?

EDIT...I'm good, found it

Oops!  I see it now - thanks!  I had looked in the P and L sections alphabetically like most other tables.  Appreciate the feedback.

I've tried three different roms for this table and they all sound the same. I get a few electronic sounds before the table starts. On start up i hear one repeating electronic sound  over and over the entire time the table plays and nothing else. Just mechanical sounds. How can i enable the electronic sounds? Thanks.

Only one ROM set exists for this game, hence I suppose you downloaded the same ROM set from three different sources, which won't change a thing.

What you have to do is change the DIP switch settings. Follow the steps below to do so (or download the NVRAM file from the original post):

  • Start the pinball table.
  • Press the F6 key (to open the DIP switch menu).
  • Uncheck the option 'Background sound (cancels scoring noise effects)'.
  • Click on the 'Ok' button (to save the DIP switch settings).
  • Press the F3 key (to restart PinMAME without closing the table).

Nice looking table but for me, using 10.8 I get very bad flipper lag.
Usually this is because the b2s is not in .exe but I checked
There are no dynamic ball shadow or similar options which could affect performance.

Any ideas? Basically the table is unplayable
