File Name: Star Trip (Game Plan 1978) JP_VPX8

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 15 Jan 2024

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Gameplan
Year: 1979
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the 1979 table by GamePlan.

Thanks to RetroM4n for the nice pictures of the table.

Playfield graphic redrawn by me. The plastics are from RetroM4n pictures, just copy & paste :)

Note: at lines 72-75 I have setup some DIP defaults in the script to extra ball and 5 balls. If you want to change this default with F6, you will need to comment these lines,

This table was built with VPX8 beta, but it can be played in VPX7 as I have not used any new commands from VPX8, but you may need to increase the playfield reflections.

I had an issue after playing a game. I started a new game with the table still on and with plenty of credits and the ball would not appear. The flippers were working and the ball should have been in the plunger ready to go and was not. I added more players, still no ball. I nudged the table strongly and the ball dropped in the plunger.

Thanks for the info. I have re-uploaded the table with that fixed :)

There was one wall a little too high. I remember moving that wall when I was getting the plunger to work, but I didn't see the wall was a little too high and it could block the ball from getting out  :)

JP, THANK YOU!! Back when I was in the business with my dad we had several of these Game Plan cocktail tables in the basement. I converted them to vp9 to play them on my cab.

An old Game Plan problem pops up again: Here we can choose between three free plays or an extra ball at the first scoring.

Almost four years ago we had the same problem with  "Andromeda". Back then, i found a solution:

https://www.vpforums...=44106&p=447867

Regarding "Star Trip", i didn't find anything to avoid these malfunctions.

One thing is interesting: Some old "Old Coney Island" version had the same "extra ball at the first scoring of every game" problem. The later Version (4.0.2) works flawless.

What was done differently in this newer version?

Hopefully the same can be done with "Star Trip".

That is a weird problem. All the versions I checked had the same problem.

one hint for us dof users: there exist an (almost empty) entry for the rom "startrip" in dof online config.

So we can use it as we want for personal dof effects

Of course maybe one of the dof gurus could create a public setting ;-)

Are you talking about "Old Coney Island"?

Could you add a couple of ferns while you're at it? And a can of Schlitz?

I have had fun reading instructions for this game on IPBD.

By pressing key 7 you access a test about the table. By pressing it 5 times you can program a score for a first replay, increasing the score from 2,000 to 2,000 using the 1 key. The same for a second and third replay. And the same for highscore. The problem is that to reset the dials, it must be done with switch 33. Can this be programmed in the table script? It would be great if it can be done. :db:

I have set the table for replays and it works fine. Furthermore, the problem of the extra ball or 3 replays for the first scoring has disappeared. :otvclap: I don't know if it's just a coincidence.

When the bonus X lights work, it will be magnificent.

Thank you all involved in this great table. I hope this comment helps!!.

I thought I was the only one who drank Schlitz? (Yes they still make it.)

So, the problem is that the three score awards are not set, they have a 0 value, and they needed to be setup by the operator.

So the only way to fix those 3 extra credits at the start is to manually configure those 3 scores and save the nvram. I can make a nvram with the values on the apron rules, 170.000, 220.000 and 280.000.

I'll make an update for the table and I'll remove the fast DIPs in the script so you may configure them with F6, and I'll supply a nvram file ready configured with the 3 replay scores. I guess those three scores were set for a 3 ball game.

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated 16.01.2024
- Replaced 4 defektive bulbs, the  Bonus X lights. Now they are working :)
- Fixed the 3 extra credits at the start by configuring the replay scores. Use the supplied nvram file. Or configure them yourself. Read the manual from the IPBD.

Thanks nestor56 for reading the manual and finding about the replay scores being 0 as default :)
The included nvram has now the replay scores setup to 170.000, 220.000 and 280.000.
Also the nvram file is configured to 3 balls and replay. Change that if you prefer with F6, the DIP switch routine made by Inkochnito.

And , of course, I replaced those defective bubs under the bonus X inserts :D

thank you JP for the update/correction

but now i never ever get an extra ball or replay - even 170.000 is way above my pinball skills  :tongue3:

I don't made my dof settings until now (assign of flippers, targets to my contactors)

but maybe i can let this job, as the SSF effects are really superb !

Those numbers, 170.000, 220.000 and 280.000, are the ones on the apron. Maybe try with 5 balls? :)
