Hello everyone!

I am currently developing an original Visual Pinball X table themed after the medieval era. Your goal is to save the town of Wallden and its King and Queen from being overtaken by an unknown enemy. You have 7 primary objectives to complete, then you fight the final boss. Complete the final boss and you will then be judged for the choices you made. The judgment determines the wizard mode you receive.

This is a massive undertaking as the table has a very deep rule set. Additional contributors for the table are highly welcomed; please let me know in this thread if you are interested. What would especially be helpful for the development process are more voice actors for the characters in the game, an artist or someone to help me with playfield art at least (bonus if we can improve the PinUp / DMD art as well), testers (especially vcab owners), and perhaps someone to help me with scripting (I could do it all myself, but it's a very slow process with my limited free time).

Notable features about this table:

  • Supports / integrates FlexDMD, PinUp, and a modified version of JPSalas' DMD.
  • Scorbit integrated for leaderboards. Will also have achievements.
  • HP / health instead of "balls per game". Also features a death save mode when you run out of HP for a chance to be revived with 1 HP.
  • 5 levels of difficulty (and a local high score leaderboard for each) including 2 special difficulties:
    • Special "Zen" mode (currently called Mystified, but I plan to rename it to Zen). Unlimited HP, play as long as you like. Press the action button at the start of a turn to end the game. You'll take a score penalty for the total HP damage you received.
    • Special "Impossible" mode. This runs like Beat the Clock. You get 3 minutes of shield time. When the clock runs out, it's sudden death (you have 1 HP), so any mistake and it could be game over! You can get more shield time to protect you from death.
  • Tournament mode (and a local high score leaderboard for that)
  • Supports up to 4 players
  • Collaborative / co-op mode
  • Procedural randomness to vary the game up each time you play it, but allows for the randomness to be consistent between players in a multi-player game, and between games in tournaments via a GLOBAL_SEED constant in the script.
  • "Resume Game" feature; if the VPX player is exited in the middle of a game (even for a script error), progress is saved, and the game can be resumed on next load (cannot be done for tournament mode games, however). As game play for Wallden is expected to be long (I'm estimating about 1.5 hours), you can exit at any point and resume the game later.
  • 7 primary objectives with a mini-wizard for each after completing it
    • CASTLE: Akin to the "modes" and mini-boss battles
    • CHASER: Akin to a typical multiball
    • SNIPER: Akin to hurry-ups
    • DRAGON: Akin to a more difficult boss battle / multiball
    • VIKING: A timed multiball
    • ESCAPE: A challenging multiball with no room for error
    • BLACKSMITH: Determines how long your ball shields are
  • Bigger wizards after completing the 7 primary objectives
    • FINAL BOSS: Akin to the main wizard mode / battle
    • ?: Akin to the final wizard mode / victory laps if the final boss is completed. There are 7 possible endings / final wizard modes depending on how you played the game.
  • Choices matter! You will have to make a few choices in the game. The choices you make determine the mini-wizards and final wizards you receive.

Again, anyone interested in contributing please let me know in this thread. Also, I would love your feedback and suggestions as well.

Development is still ongoing and expected to take a couple more years at least due to my limited free time and the sheer size of this project.

Side note: VPin Workshop has helped with some aspects of the table. It is not likely I will be keeping VPW branding in the table in the end aside from the credits. The original plan was for this to be a VPW table. But I have since changed plans; this will start out as a table under my name and the names of all contributors, and maybe later down the road it will get a facelift either by VPW or another group.

Release plans are that this table will be released both to VPForums and VPUniverse.
