File Name: BMX (Bally 1983)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 12 Dec 2022

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Halen
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1983
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Based on the table by Bally from 1983.

Thanks Halen for the redrawing of the graphics.

The Magnasave buttons are heavily in use in this table, so I have disabled the LUT selector in the script. Just un-comment the two lines in the script if you want to set up a darker view. No need to save the table, as later that level will be loaded automatically.

And don't forget to use the Magnasave buttons to convert the "outlanes" to "inlanes" :)

Thanks!! JP.

I wanted to thank Rocco for the images provided. I think there's one more table  that Rocco is wating. Salas already has the graphics.

I guess he is waiting for Super Score or for Motordome :) This Motordome from Bally looks really colorful :)

Thanks for release JP. Looks and plays awesome, but there's a minor script bug. BMX is NOT 6803. It should read Bally VBS.

Greetings:Petri

Thanks for the info. I always take a look at destruk's tables to check the vpinmame scripts :) And he used the 6803.vbs, so I did too :) Is there any advantages in using the Bally.vbs instead of the 6803.vbs for this table? If so, then I can make an update.

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated 12.12.2022
- changed the vbs file from 6803.vbs to bally.vbs, thanks Pin-Pete for the info.

You don't need to download the table since you can simply change the line:

LoadVPM "01200000", "6803.VBS", 3.1

with

LoadVPM "01200000", "bally.VBS", 3.1

look at me again with the same question...

Is there a way to configure the Outlanes to be activated with the same flippers buttons?

That will be cheating! :)

But you can change the script as you want: just replace the MagnaSave names with the keys you prefer:

    If KeyCode = LeftMagnaSave Then Controller.Switch(8) = 1
    If KeyCode = RightMagnaSave Then Controller.Switch(5) = 1

and

    If KeyCode = LeftMagnaSave Then Controller.Switch(8) = 0
    If KeyCode = RightMagnaSave Then Controller.Switch(5) = 0

Dear JP,

thank you for this nice recreation.

Unfortunately the game has no dip switch menu. I have made a trial and it works. Peter's (thank you for this treasure!!!) menu for Speakeasy works in its basic functions, e.g. ball per game adjust.

Attached File  DIP Switch Menue Speak Easy.txt   1.62KB   12 downloads

Copy this at the end of the script and you have the menu.

Again thanks to Peter and JP!!!

Sincerely Christian.

For this subject I found a more effective solution, try this:

    If KeyCode = LeftFlipperKey Then LeftGate.RotateToEnd 'Controller.Switch(8) = 1
    If KeyCode = RightFlipperKey Then RightGate.RotateToEnd'Controller.Switch(5) = 1

    If KeyCode = LeftFlipperKey Then LeftGate.RotateToStart'Controller.Switch(8) = 0
    If KeyCode = RightFlipperKey Then RightGate.RotateToStart'Controller.Switch(5) = 0

... just a suggestion

thanks JP!!!

I'm "obliged" to cheat...kkkk I don't have magnasave buttons in my little cabinet...

I made the change from LeftMagnasave and RightMagnasave to LeftFlipper and RightFlipper but an error occurs... "The object does not support the property or method"

Could it be that the ROM does not accept this change or did I do some "earing" here...

your suggestion worked perfectly..

thanks for the tip,

@teisen: The keys are called LeftFlipperKey  and RightFlipperKey, and not simply LeftFlipper  and RightFlipper as those are the names of the flippers themselves.

@Mustang1961: that will work, but then those keys will work even during game over :) And some roms detect if a switch has not been used or hit is a while and the rom may be giving errors about those switches not working.

So a better solution will be to change the magnasave keys this way:

    If KeyCode = LeftFlipperKey Then Controller.Switch(8) = 1
    If KeyCode = RightFlipperKey Then Controller.Switch(5) = 1

    If KeyCode = LeftFlipperKey Then Controller.Switch(8) = 0
    If KeyCode = RightFlipperKey Then Controller.Switch(5) = 0

At least this way you can keep hitting the flipper and close that gate, as the roms takes a little break so you close that gate whenever it pleases you :) Just try to hit the magnaves several times after each other and you will see the rom making a delay before it activates them again :) This will be cheating, but not as bad cheating :)
