File Name: Punchy the Clown (Alvin G and Co 1993)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 03 Mar 2022

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Alvin G
Year: 1993
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Based on the Alvin G, & Co table from 1993.
Graphics based on the VP table by TAB/destruk.

Thanks to drik333 for suggesting this table and for the nvram file configured for pinball mode
Thanks to teisen for the wheels.

The table works in 2 modes: redemption mode and pinball mode
When you run this table without the configured nvram then it starts in redemption mode, this is a 1 ball game and it gives you tickets :)
In pinball mode the table works as a normal pinball game with 3 balls.

Here it is how to change from redemption  mode to pinball mode in the rom:

Press 7 to get to Adjustments Menu
Press 7 to get to Standard Adjustments
Press 7 to get to Game Style adjustments
Press 7 to get to allow adjustments
Press 9 or 0 to toggle between Redemption mode and Regular mode.
Press 7 to select regular mode
Press 8 until you are out of the menu screen.  Sometimes it does not restart the game.  If this happens, press F3 to reset.

Download the manual from the IPDB if you want to learn more about this table and its configuration.

Note about the graphics: If you want to enhance/redraw the graphics then be my guest and do that.
They look good like they are now, but they could be much better :)

JP

Yes, in desktop mode you may see the tickets if you run in redemption mode. Regular pinball mode does not give you tickets.

ah well ok, it would be fine also in FS Mode for all us Cab Users ... could you add the Ticket Image and outcoming Tickets, maybe with an Option: FS_Tickets = true ? ;)

So I changed to 3 ball, use cabinet: are any tickets supposed to come out of that ticket box (digitally/visually of course)?

I ask since it takes up an 1/8 of the playfield.

Now DON"T get me wrong! Great looking table...and already frustrated at it!

I could 'stretch' it but I don't like having it taller than wider...looks 'funny'.

... this is a smaller Machine, so you don't have to strech it longer.
See ... https://www.ipdb.org...508&picno=32382

Tickets coming out only with the "1 Ball ROM Version" - i tried that, its funny ;) ... well,i cant say if the Tickets also there in the 3 Ball Version, but i think: no.

UPDATE

1.02 Updated 04.03.2022
- Fixed ball getting stuck behind the PUN targets.
- fixed flashers not working from time to time, but that breaks the ticket dispenser, no problem if playing in pinball mode.

About the flashers & the ticket dispenser:
There is a command in the script to enable the ticket dispenser, it is at line 145, Controller.Switch(-5) = 1, this line is disabled by default now and the reason is because it disables the flashers, with the rom giving an error.
Only enable that line if you don't care about the flashers and you play in redemption mode, this is 1 ball per game and you earn tickets.

I recommend you change the rom to play in Regular (Pinball) mode which will give you 3 balls per game and no tickets.

Nice looking table,

when I start it, the table and backglass comes up and I can add coins. And then nothing happens after that. Any suggestions?

Use the R03 ROM rather than/in addition to the R02 version that's linked in the OP.
