Pinscape Knocker issue

pinscape knocker testing

Best Answer ikendrick , 21 July 2021 - 12:12 PM

Hi strells,

Thanks for the reply.

I have a 24 Volt PSU stepped up to 48 Volt with the red wire from the + on the output from the step up to the knocker. There is a diode between the input and output of the knocker oriented as per mjr's guide. The output from the knocker goes to the knocker on the pinscape main board.

Like I said it's not that it doesn't work - in fact it makes a perfect punch when it fires. The only thing I find odd is I was expecting it to fire once I switch it ON in the config tool. Nothing happens until I turn if OFF then it fires for 2 seconds before shutting down. Shouldn't this be the other way around?

Also seems a little odd that it fires after updating the KL25Z from the config tool.

May be it is supposed to do this - just wanted confirmation that it is normal.

Edit: Moved this question to the pinscape expansion boards thread.

Edit : problem solved. I had set the knocker output to active low in the config tool by accident. See the thread in pinscape expansion boards forum for details. Thanks to mjr and mikepiball.

Hi All,

I have been building a virtual pinball cabinet over the last few months and finally got the bugs ironed out in the build of my pinscape boards ( mostly solder joints ). Finally installed the knocker and it works fine apart from one odd thing. When I use the Pinscape Config tool to test the knocker and push the button to on nothing happens. When I turn the button off the knocker fires for the prescribed 2 seconds. Also when I program the KL25Z it works fine but on completion it fires the knocker.

It seems like I have some backward as it takes the 0V as the firing trigger instead of the +VE. I know LEDWiz does that but I am not using any of those boards just the pinscape main board plus one output board.

FYI - I have been using MJR's pinscape build guide which I think is AWESOME. Thank you sir for putting such a detailed guide together as you saved me much from a lot of stress and pain  :otvclap:

Any ideas would be much welcome

Cheers,

Ian.

I haven't wired up my knocker yet, but obviously power (I got a 48V supply just for this) should be applied to the red wire.  Did you add a diode?
