Decided to make one of my favorite tables, Shaq Attaq, a little more interesting by adding a basketball decal.

Instructions:

Import basketball_ball.png and and ball_all_black.png to table image manager.

Reload table in VPX to get them to appear in list. Set Ball Image to "ball_all_black", Ball Decal to "basketball_ball", no logo mode, Reflection of Playfield to 0.1, and Default Bulb Intensity to 0.1.

ball_all_black.png (name it what you want)

[EDIT] Here's a couple more decal textures for Harlem Globetrotters (one with logo, one without)

[SECOND EDIT] Meh. Just tried both the globetrotters decals and there is some weird clipping on the red parts and the whites appear grey and washed out - should I be saving PNG's in 24 or 32? Maybe go with a smaller resolution?

Nice! You should submit this to the resources section, so it's archived properly

Ah still learning my way around how to post on this forum, I thought I WAS in resources lol. Had to link to images externally, too. I'll figure it out!

Meant "Table Resources", just one subforum deeper lol. But it looks like the file attachment process is the same, so maybe it doesn't matter?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've put this ball decal in a few tables now, exactly the same way every time - Space Jam (had to edit some ball select script on this one), NBA Fastbreak, Shaq Attaq, and Harlem Globetrotters - and it's weird, in some tables it looks flat and washed out (more tan than orange), and in others it looks slightly shiny and a very vibrant orange. Tried turning ball reflection on and off but it had no obvious effect.

Guess I gotta learn more about how balls work!

Sounds like the difference would be the LUT image used, not the fault of the ball.

Eureka! ...once again you've solved a mystery for me! Thanks @Wylte!

P.S. I have no idea where to find or change the LUT image...

On the lighter colors, like the Harlem balls, turn on Logo Mode - Darker things seem to look better without it, they get kind of milky with it on.

I put together a golf ball and soccer ball today that look pretty good too, but I'll save those for another post. I know those already exist but I like to put in the work so I can figure it out myself.

Think the scaling gets weird if you go over 256x128. I notice weird curling and clipping on the Harlem balls, like the image is stretching too far. Going to look at smaller resolutions tomorrow and see if that smooths it.
