He might only have a little old PC to play on?

but i'd have to see a screen shot of what he means

You need to install the font that comes with the table.

The scores are kept on a Text Box that uses this font.

WilliamsFontWide.TTF

capture178_t.png

If you still have problems or can't install the font, you can open the table in the Editor, and click the Script Tab on left hand side of Editor...

Go to LINE 134 and make a new LINE that says this...

  .Hidden=0

Here are before and after pics to show you where to put this LINE.

Before..

capture2a_t.png

After adding the LINE...

capture2b_t.png

This will bring up the PinMAME window and this window does not need a font installed to work.

capture330_t.png

Carry on.

i have vpx on my machine but the tables are not working properly , the machines i have on it will boot up and i can put credits on them and open the coin door but when i try to play there is a long delay with the flippers and bad ball stutter! the games are unplayable , it may be a outdated graphic card since im playing it on a old windows 7 machine with windows ten on it , i got the computer for free do not know what type of card is in there, i guess I am stuck playing vp 8 and vp 9 untill i can figure out exactly what the problem is, maybe there is a way to tweek it another way but i not sure what else i can try unless someone has some ideas , i will have to figure out what card it is using and if i can update it when i can afford to, where can i get a font for the krull table? i did not realize you needed a ad on , my other krull table works but must be using another rom because the ruleset is not the same , I think its a old vp table with the rom built in or something, i cant remember but its harder to get to the lower playfield! either gottlieb made more than one prototype rom or someone made a custom rom for it!   OK  i downloaded the table again to get the font, what folder do i put it in? or do you install it some other way? i saw the editor part, not good at using it but i think i get that part! did you mean line 136? do i just hit install on the font? just want to make sure i do it right? also i am kinda confused i opened the script in editor and the information is there but the line numbers on the left are not there! do i have to hit install first? how do i make and show a screen shot?

what are the machines hardware specs?
and what monitor resolution are you trying to run it at?

VP9 is still pretty viable really.
I have a lot of good vp9 tables

I do not think your krull table uses a ROM
And the one that displays wrong, the font should have been in the zip with the table?

Ok so it has no graphics card
It is in the motherboard's chipset
It's a laptop video solution from around 2016 for windows XP

Probably maybe used in some compact desktops

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

If this a laptop PC or a desktop?

Even if desktop, it may lack suitable PCI-E slots to upgrade the Video

As it sits, yes, that gpu would be extremely taxed trying to run VPX even with lowest options

But it should do OK with VP9, and there are many good VP9 tables

it is a desktop pc, hp presario , it has a windows 7pro sticker on it but was refurbished by a company called pcs for people and runs windows 10 on it, my vp8 machines are in a folder on my desktop from a thumb drive and vpx is intalled on the machine, after messing around with the vp object on both setups i got vpx to cross reference the roms off vp8 so i did not have to move all the tables and roms, vp8 and vp9 run fine on vpx or on 8 on it or the separate folder  it but i have to uninstall the object on both set ups and reinstall the object on vpx only to fire up vpx10 tables, i leave it as is right now because its kinda tricky to set up and vpx10 tables are unplayable anyways for the time being , is there a graphics card i could install in the machine?

i have no idea what you mean uninstall or reinstall the object?

VPX could case less where your tables are, as long as your tables folder contains a copy of b2s server and screenres.txt
for vp9 anyways, not sure if vp8 does b2s backglasses

And VPX VP9 and VP8 are all separate processes.
I have no idea what object you are talking about

Are you sure you are not talking about vpinmame?

In which case, you should not be doing what it is you are doing.
You should install the vpinmame that came with the vpx installation (from it's setup.exe)

then move those roms into the c:\visual pinball\vpinmame\roms folder

and the tables themselves you can technically keep in any folder you want
Though i might recommend

c:\visual pinball\Tables VP8\

c:\visual pinball\Tables VP9\

and just leave the normal tables folder empty for now, as vpx tables probably wont run very well for that PC

yes it is a short set up ex thats in the pinmame folder that sets up defaults e.c.t , i could have moved the roms i suppose but i wanted to keep the vp8 folder separate from the vpx setup, the way it was some tables vp9 did not run untill i installed both programs just right!  i will probably have to move the roms over and set it up right though! i guess someone called it the pinmame object in the past! i think it just lets the roms communicate with the tables or something!

The ROMS are common between vp8 vp9 and vpX
same roms for all of the above, they share those

PinMAME will let you declare multiple ROM paths, but that is a left over from MAME mostly
outside of development or testing not much call to separate roms in pinmame

But one could sub divide them if one wanted.
You would just add the rom paths in the same setup.exe

roms\gottlieb 1978
roms\gottlieb 1980
roms\stern 1990

roms\williams 1995

If someone wanted to micromanage rom organization, i am not that energetic

Now as for your tables

Take the stock VPX tables folder
now make 2 copies of it
rename one copy tables-VP8, rename the other tables-VP9

visual pinball wont mind a bit

Then you can keep your specific vp version tables nice and separate

Do you know if your monitor takes a vesa mount?
I am assuming (maybe wrongly) that you are playing on a single screen?

Sometimes, you might find that the good vp9 table you want is designed in full screen mode for cabinet use.

If you can hang the monitor on a rotating vesa mount, you can just spin it.

If the monitor does not take one of those, you can always rig up something to hold the monitor and just flip the thing sideways.

By the way, what resolution is your monitor?

Actually, what resolution is your monitor
Which model presario

And is this PC for other uses as well, or just for playing pinball on?

Ok, so it is a square 4.3 aperture monitor

Does the PC case no say HP/Compaq Presario r5400 or something like that?

i was trying to look up for you if the PC happened to have a PCIE slot.
Cause if it did, there are a couple of things you could do cheaply.

1) pick up a used old gen pcie video card
like an ati hd 4600 to 4800 series or an nvidia gt 730 series

2) hit up your local craigs list
look for 26, 27 inch  LCD tv's, you dont need HD
So old generation 720p screens are perfectly fine, see those going for cheap all the time, like 20 bucks
Run VPX at 1280x768 and turn on All of the video features, at that resolution you will be able to run all the eyecandy

There, you got a playfield screen, which will actually look really good

Now just fab up something to lay that down mostly flat on
slide your normal screen up behind it as a backglass
and plug in about any old usb gamepad, and you got a mini cab lite.

When not playing pinball, you could actually use the 2nd screen for other things.

Anyways,  just an idea

well then, i believe that bad boy has a PCIE graphics slot
as an external GPU was an option.

so yes, you could do something like i mentioned above and have a kind of part time 2 screen cab-lite
part time 2 screen desktop PC

And, a 26" or so 720p 2nd screen is great for watching netflix etc on.
Its also great for damned many column wide spready sheets LOL

VP8 tables were not bad

The authors had no choice over graphics detail or art or the resolution, that was all vp8 could do, but that did not stop them from building great gameplay.

And technically, at the time, vp8 looked astounding, you just can not see that now as too many newer things to see beside it, and you kind of can not unsee them.

And VP9 can look very very good really, with the right artwork.

But yea, those 2 things i mentioned would get you playing vpX really good on that machine running that resolution i mentioned on a 720p screen.
It will look really nice, and run really smooth for very little cash.

Things do not have to be 4k and 43+ inches to look and work good

I know people who have a cab, yet dont have a cab
they have a knock apart PVC tube frame that they can lay their TV flat on, with a platform at the back to set the PC monitor on, and some clamps to hold it from falling off
and then a little box attached to the front with a few cheap arcade buttons and a 0 delay usb controller.
they plug the PC into it, do their pinball thing, then return everyone back to their normal place, pop the frame apart and put it in the closet
and back to business as usual.
No evidence of pinball ever happening.
