Loch Ness Monster (Game Plan 1985)

Loch Ness Monster was the last pinball machine created by Game Plan in 1985.  The only real world version of the machine is the prototype.  Making this machine extremely rare.  The resources available for this machine is very limited.  There is no known rom and/or video of the actual game play.  The recreation of this table was started by Roccodimarco with his VP9 creation.  This was then converted to VPX by Goldchicco.  With their permission I improved the playfield with better graphics.  Recreated all of the plastics.  Made a bunch of changes to the script including scripting it for B2s.  I re-did all of the rubbers and cleaned up the playfield elements so they are properly aligned.  I really don't remember everything I did but it was pretty extensive.

The file download also includes the B2S and wheel image I created for this release.  No rom is needed.

Enjoy!

We need someone to donate a 3d model of nessie, so she can be dropped into a basement pool under the table

Coming in version 2.0 that I hope to release soon.  I am learning 3D!  My first model looked kind of like a floating turd instead of Nessie.  I am trying a new approach.  So far...so good.  Thanks!

Are you using VPX 10.6?  I never tested this with the latest 10.7 beta.

Hmmm....OK.  That should work.  I take it that you are not having issues with any other tables?  Are you running this directly via VPX or via a front end such as Popper?

Other tables are working.

I’m sure it’s a bug on this table on my system.

ball won’t load from table folder or pinballx.

I've had this problem on other tables I’ve downloaded but for the life of me I can’t remember the tables or what I did to fix the problem.

OK.  Just for clarification...you open VPX...not PinballX.  You are instantly presented with an open windows to open a table.  You select Loch Ness.  The table loads and starts.  You press the number 5 key to add credits (assuming this is set for credits in the key settings).  You visually see and hear credits being added.  You press the number 1 key to start the game (assuming this is set for start game in the key settings).  The game starts.  All the lights stopped flashing and the flippers work but you do not get a ball?

Have you tried turning on the debugger and manually adding a ball?

OK...are the all of the lights still flashing on the table?  Do the flippers work?  If no...then the table did not start.  Are you using the buttons on the cab or are you using a keyboard to start the game?  When troubleshooting you have to take it back to the basics.  Plug in a keyboard and try running VPX using it.  If it works then there is something in your setup.

Lights flash, I hear sound, flippers do not work, I’m using buttons on the cab. I’ve never used keyboard to play games only for setting up and making adjustments.

OK.  Please try it with a keyboard.  Don't get me wrong...it should work with the cab buttons but I am trying to discover the root cause of the issue.  The table is technically not starting.  Are you using Joy2Key?  I know I've had issues with this program in the past and stopped using it.  VPX does not require it nor does FP or FX2/3.

The #1 button on keyboard does launch the ball to the plunger. After that the cabinet seems to play very good. Lights flash....I can see nessie in pool.....flippers work.

it would be nice to play without hitting the #1 button.

OK.  Now we are getting somewhere!  What is your VPX key setting to Start Game?  Also, are you using Joy2Key?

Um, you kind of lost me about my vpx key setting to start the game. And what is joy2key?

Um, you kind of lost me about my vpx key setting to start the game. And what is joy2key?

Sorry.  Open VPX but do not open a table.  When the option to open a table pops up just hit cancel.  Click on Preferences at the top and then select Configure Keys, Nudge, and DOF.  Look for the Button Assignment for Start Game it should say 1 underneath.  That is the system default setting.  That is why it works.  Under that is where you can input your cab button to start the game.  Does it show anything or does it say (none)?

As for Joy2Key...it is a little software program that runs in the background.  Most cab builders use a zero delay encoder PCB board to operate their cab buttons.  These boards and the buttons show up in Windows as a game controller.  Instead of setting the button configuration of this game controller (what controls your cab buttons) directly in VPX using the Button Assignments (see above) they use Joy2Key to convert the buttons controls to keyboard inputs.  So when you press a button on the cabinet it is inputting to the computer and VPX with the corresponding keyboard command.  Example...press button for right flipper on cab and Joy2Key send R Shift keyboard command to PC/VPX.
