File Name: JP's Mephisto (Cirsa 1987)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 01 Apr 2021

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1987
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Table based on Unidesa/Cirsa/Stargame's table from 1987. Since the ROM is not working, this is my own interpretation of the table. The rules should be as close as possible to the real table.

The Table uses my DMD and it will use the FlexDMD in FS mode.

Thanks to Joshua for the original table sounds.

Thanks to berk104 for the redrawing of the playfield and the pictures of his table, and to Leonard for enhancing the images used in this VPX table.

I really enjoy this table! I have been playing the wip and made a backglass for your dmd. I have attached the Dropbox below. I will upload the backglass tomorrow. Great work!

I love how this table screams and laughs. I have played at this table and I remember turning up the volume to play it in the mythical Tron arcades in my city. and this version of master jp sounds great, it has a lot of new sounds. Comment that the latest beta of 10.7 is needed to play:

Another reason I am continually enamored with this hobby.  I would have NEVER seen this company let alone this particular table in the wild.  What a treat.  Thanks for the hard work...plays like a dream.

I forgot, wasn't the ROM of this Table special compared to what other Tables had at the time?

It is possible that it was since it is not emulated. The rom is dumped and it is in vpinmame, but I can't get it to work. that's why I scripted the table without the rom. the rules were easy to implement. The music is not the original, but all the sounds are from the original table.

How do you play this with 10.6?

You can not

It requires 10.7 physics, which i do not think are even in the 1.6.2 point release

Grab the 10.7 beta
unzip into a temp folder

rename vpinballx.exe to vpinballx 10.7 beta.exe

then copy the entire contents of the temp folder, and paste it into your vpx folder
and say yes to overwriting

I promise you, it wont break anything

When is the latest version of VP going to be uploaded to VPForums?

When it is ready, but for now use the latest beta, as it works quite well. there are some bugs with the music when using ogg and mp3 files, but they are not used in this table, and I have used a workaround in my other tables that uses ogg files for the music.

Having difficulty running FlexDMD.  I registered FlexDMD using the CMD commands below.

  • FlexDMDUI.exe /register
  • FlexDMDUI.exe /register-udmd

The game was giving me a script error before I ran these commands.  Now it launches fine but no DMD showing.  What am I missing?

Thanks.

Desktop or cabinet mode?
And do you mean the DMD inside the table or external?

Cabinet mode, with only two screens.  I'm expecting to have the DMD on my backglass monitor.  Thanks.

Cabinet mode, with only two screens.  I'm expecting to have the DMD on my backglass monitor.  Thanks.

First, when you open flexDMDUI (you are supposed to actually open it)

do the demo screens show up when you click in the tabs at the top?
If yes then it is working, if no then there is an issue.

if those show up, are you sure that the DMD screen is not underneath the table?
if you are in exclusive fullscreen mode, you'll never see it to grab and move it.

Kind of helps to take a display from any table, that is using freezys, and stick it dead center of the backglass (Or DMD if you have a 3rd screen), then right click it and pick save global, then put it back where it goes and right click and save for table.

That way any new table will at least put the display on the right screen by default.
then put it back where it belongs.

In your particular case, run flexDMDUI
click one of the demo tabs
Drag the demo window to the backglass screen, right click it, and chose to save global.
Then any freezy powered DMD windows will land on the backglass somewhere, by default

then you can adjust them and chose to save for tablename.
then you can see them to resize and reposition with out having to turn off exclusive full screen all the time.

Ok, thanks for that Wiesshund, I didn't realize I had to run FlexDMDUI first.  So when I run this now, I am getting a red X in the Base Installation section in front of...

DmdDevice.dll was not found alongside FlexDMD.dll.  No rendering will happen.

I have green ticks on all the other sections of the Base Installation screen.

I copied the FlexDMD files into my Visual Pinball folder, was it meant to be installed in another folder?
