File Name: Central Park (Gottlieb 1966) directB2S

File Submitter: loserman76

File Submitted: 11 Mar 2021

File Category: dB2S Animated Backglasses

Author(s): Editoy
Stat
Loserman76
tgx (for his VPX release)
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1966

This is a mod of Editoy's excellent directB2S for Central Park. This one I've changed how the monkey animation works so it's a little more in the control of the VPX table.

The ZIP also includes a txt file of a replacement script for tgx's 1.0.1 release of Central Park. A majority of the directB2S work was initially done by Stat when Editoy released this a few years ago. I've made some addtional changes to animate the monkey properly and make the match functional. Just replace the entire script with the one in the txt file and you should be all set. Any future changes/fixes to the scripting will be posted in the support thread.

This is great Loserman. I guess I don't have any real good reason for it. But, if I can't run a db2s the "modern" way, then I won't. So, now, this one will get into my cab.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

The animation is very nice!

I can't get the backglass settings to save so that I can use a .res file. I click the small button and save, but when the table is re-loaded it just reverts back. None of my other tables have this problem.

Regardless, thanks for the excellent backglass.

Back glass settings as in right click the backglass?
Or B2S settings?

The settings when you right-click the backglass. I made a .res file for my three screen setup (actually just copied/renamed from another table that already works fine) I select the "small" button in the backglass settings, click save and restart the table. When I restart, the resolution/ratio of the backglass from the .res file has not been applied and when I go back into the backglass settings the "small" button is unclicked. It doesn't seem to be saving the status of the "small" button. It is also not making an entry in the B2S xml file. It is very strange and I've never seen it happen before. I use .res files all the time to set my backglass locations and ratio.

I am a little confused here

I have no small button in B2S settings when right clicking a backglass

I have a very large one in the bottom center of the window to SAVE but nothing with the word small in it

and to have different resolutions, all i have to do is copy screenres.txt

rename it to tablename.res, with the exact name of the table

and then edit it for what ever values i had wanted to change and save it

And when i launch the table, it just uses it, i do not have to do anything else
but name it exactly the same name as the table and backglass files

I dont have to point the mouse anyplace near the backglass display

I can confirm what MoneyKing is seeing. I use the same method for most older machines. Don't know why, I want EM's db2s to become square. I fiddled a little with this yesterday without resolving it. Put the table aside. I'm sure at some point I'll spend more time on it, figuring out why my first attempt didn't work.

The small-button is in there for a long time. With the button you can set the backglass to 4:3. And you can insert a wallpaper in the table-folder which is behind the backglass, so that a 16:9 display is filled. I use the 1.3.0.4.

"Small" button aside, with my res-file the backglass will be shown in the correct aspect ratio every time on my monitor:

1024
768
692
768
2
166
0
0
0
0
0
0

This is for a 4:3 monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 768. If you have another resolution, you have to recalculate the parameters.

I am not sure how to determine what version i have
I am pretty sure that as far as b2s server goes, it is the version that comes in the AIO installer, which is 10.6.0

details on the DLL say version 1.0 last modified 10/2019

So maybe i got an old version?
I mean it works fine and all and i already edited all my backglasses that looked bad in 16.9 by exporting the image out and centering it on a 16.9 black image, then reimporting that

but might be nice to just do that with a button

I will have to go investigate the downloads

EDIT

well never mind
same version i have, i guess they just did not flag the version in the DLL

I wonder how come i have no button?

I just went back to using the old .exe backglass for now. Since it has a border built-in it's pretty close to "correct" on my 4:3 backglass screen. I'm super picky about proper aspect ratios, though. I'm just glad people continue to bring these interesting old EMs back to life, especially the ones with fun backglass gimmicks like the monkey.

That is strange, i wonder why it is not picking up on your tablename.res file?

Like i have

alien poker multiball.vpx

and

alien poker multiball.directb2s

So, i copied my screenres.txt

and renamed it to

alien poker multiball.res

and edited it to read

2560
1440
1024
768
2
2561
0
0
0
0
0
0

and then just fired up that table
and it made the backglass 1024x768
wrong position, obviously since i didnt edit that, but the size was spot on
Since i have a minute now, finally, going to see what it does with this backglass

I think i have your answer

rename table, backglass and .res file to central park

ditch the (Gottlieb 1966) part

it wont work for me with that name either, but if i rename it, it works fine

b2s must for some reason not like loading a res file named like that, not sure why? maybe it is the parenthesis?

I'll rename the file in the next update although I have a lot of tables in my collection with this naming convention but I don't

make any use of .res files.

I found it odd too, but it worked, and anyone can rename a file

Just FYI, renaming the file made no difference for me. All my other tables use the common "Game Name (Manufacturer 1999)" naming scheme and work fine. I even tried running the table from a completely separate folder from my other tables all new screenres.txt and .res files (and variations of them) to make sure I wasn't having a weird conflict anywhere. It didn't help. It may just be a quirk of some systems. TGX, I'm not sure it's worth changing over.

There are things missing from the table script So more than likely that may be the problem
Like loserman76 says above ----> Any future changes/fixes to the scripting will be posted in the support thread.

Yah the more I thought about it the more it didn't make sense to rename it.

Yah the more I thought about it the more it didn't make sense to rename it.

does not make sense, but works.
And it is not the table.
Does same thing if i pair it with AC-DC (Luci - Stern).vpx
does not work but if i rename to acdc Luci.vpx (and b2s) it works

no idea why, just does
Makes no sense, because nothing you can do to the b2s file has any effect on b2s service simply looking to see "Is there a matching .res to this? If so, i will override screenres.txt with it"

It should work with a totally fubar table and backglass for that matter
