File Name: Chance (Playmatic 1978)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 01 Jun 2020

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
pedator
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1978
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the table by Playmatic from 1978.

Graphics & directb2s by pedator.
Vpinmame script based on the script by destruk.

It looks like Playmatic liked the name "Chance" in a pinball table, since in 1971 they made an EM table with the same name :)
This table is a 4 players SS table.

Oh. I saw this name and I thought to myself, isn't here already a playmatic with this name. Guess my memory isn't really all that bad - yet ;)

Thank you Juan. Sun is shining, but, honestly, right now it is too warm being in the sun for a ice bear like me. I rather download this and play it in the dark entrance hall with windows opened for a nice breeze.

Update: Back after playing this for 10-15 games. Really fun. Very important to get that kicker on top on plunge, and it has excellent physics. Have a feeling that some dip switch settings would help for at least the coin-up. Right now it is kind of weird. Sometime takes 1 coin, others 4-5 before being given a credit. Big thumbs up from me.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Thanks pedator for noticing the digit being visible on the apron in the FS view. I have just re-uploaded the table with that fixed.

And yes, the coins are a little weird. The only dip switches are the nr 1 that will give you 3 credits with one coin, the nr 2 which gives you 5 balls, and the nr 3 that toggles replay or extra ball (they are explained in the table info)

I have seen a few videos of this table on youtube, and the table is fast, and those bumpers and slingshots makes the table very chaotic, with very fast balls to the sides :)

About the kicker: I have learned how to make a hole to a primitive :) But I need to look at the list of things to do :)

Looking at a list of things to do - sounds very familiar to me ;)

Dang, of course I didn't check the table info.

I think this is the fastest table I have made, I just spend 2 1/2 days :) It does help to have all the graphics done, pedator even made all the reels for the backdrop (game over, tilt, light numbers ++)

JP's expert work is always amazing. I hope one day i could finish the graphic work in only 3 days...  :pinnochio:  i think it's not possible at all :P graphic work is always slow.

All the images for backdrop comes directly from the backglass, once redrawed it's more easy and funny to compose and resize. I love the brightness of this backglass, it's reallly nice.

For the settings menu, you can copy the dispswitch menu code by Inkochnito from the Last Lap table for vpx (at the end). Seems works well for the 3 dips, not sure, need checking but its probable, same company, same year, same sound..., recycling in the 70s xD

Thank you pedator and JPS for this super-cute early SS by Playmatic.

When you add the following lines at the end of the script the adjustment becomes easier.

Taken from Last Lap by Michael Fügemann:

'-------------------------------
'------  DIP Switch Menu  ------
'-------------------------------
'Playmatic 1 dips
'added by Inkochnito

Sub editDips
Dim vpmDips:Set vpmDips=New cvpmDips
With vpmDips
.AddForm 400,200,"Playmatic 1 - DIP switches"
.AddFrame 0,0,190,"High score to date award",&H00000001,Array("3 credits",0,"1 credit",&H00000001)'dip 1
.AddFrame 0,46,190,"Balls per game",&H00000002,Array("3 balls",0,"5 balls",&H00000002)'dip 2
.AddFrame 0,92,190,"Special award",&H00000004,Array("replay",0,"extra ball",&H00000004)'dip 3
.AddLabel 0,150,200,40,"After hitting OK, press F3 to reset game with new settings."
.ViewDips
End With
End Sub
Set vpmShowDips=GetRef("editDips")

Thanks :) I'll add it in the next update :)

I reget to have one finding: The post between the flipper arms does not come up  :bye2:  .

What I found is the the post come up when you hit the top button, not when the ball goes into the hole.

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated 03.06.2020
- fixed Highscore light on the desktop
- added dip switch menu from inkochnito.

Only the table has changed, not the directb2s. Just a small fix this time :)

Nice table JP
plays very good !

Anyone has an idea how to change the coin chute behavior of this table ?
Can't find it in the manual, and also cannot access the rom as well.
I really don't have a clue how to modify it

331ddabcc742f0ba74791e946eb0f791.gif Try PinballX Database manager as a replacement of PinballX's game list manager
With special thanks to Scutters

It is slow at accepting coins, but it works with the keys 3, 4 and 5. But as I said it is slow at accepting coins.

I have added DOF support in the code. I can't change the "Ball release" event, maybe someone can suggest how to do it properly?

I'll take a look, and if I can't find a solution I'll add something manually :)

I see a solution:

Change line 124 to

        SolCenterPost 1

And comment the lines 229 and 234, like this

Sub SolCenterPost(Enabled)
    'If Not Controller.Lamp(14)Then
        Post.IsDropped = Enabled
        postlight.State = ABS(Enabled)-1
        postlight2.State = ABS(Enabled)-1
    'End If
End Sub

The lamp(14) is the tilt lamp. The idea was that the post should not come up if the table was tilted, but that made the post to do not go down either :) And the call at the line 124 rised the post instead of making it to go down :) But the line never worked anyway :) But now it is fixed. I'll make an update when I come home next week (I'm in Mallorca now :D), I'll add some physics changes so it will be updated to my latest :)
