Greetings everyone and thanks in advance for reading and to those who respond their time and expertise in responding.

I hope I can describe my situation.

I am still somewhat of a newb, so I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

I am running the PinballX frontend and want to play both VP9 and VP10 tables.  I read a thread somewhere that said just make a seperate folder for VPX and leave the VPinMAME folder in the original folder, which I did.

I have a couple games that are running just fine, but on Champions Pub and Metallica when I open the tables I am getting an error that the ROM is missing and to check the path.  I have verified that the ROM name matches the name in the script.  I even tried copying the VPinMAME folder into the new VPX folder, and same error.  I tested the mtl_164 ROM in VPinMAME and it started, just will not start when I load the table in VPX.

Any ideas?  Hope this is enough info, if not please feel free to ask questions and I will be happy to answer.  I am LOVING this new hobby.

Thanks!

It's been a while, but I think I was getting this error when I had the exclusive full screen option enabled in the settings.

If you need to enable exclusive fullscreen, e.g. from performance reasons, you have to set ddraw=0 in the registry for each ROM...

This problem should slowly go away since pinmame now defaults to ddraw=0. However, if you have played the table in eg. VP9 before. Then you can do one of two things. Change the key for ddraw or just delete the registry entry for the rom.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Hello,

I have deleted the ROM entry in the registry - failure stays.

Sorry, I cannot find the tick box for "exclusive full screen option enabled in the settings",

please give support, thanks to all, Christian.

P. S.: affected game is Excalibur with ROM "excalibr.zip"

Attached File  Excalibur ROM error.jpg   21.42KB   5 downloads

EDIT: found the tick box, but was unticked - and now?

where is the command "ddraw=0" to be set?

I don't remember exactly what version pinmame changed that default. ( I just shouted yippee - inside and gave a nod west toward the US and DjRobX ) So, if you have a slightly old version, what would happen is that you delete the rom entry, and the value of 1 is written back and you are still in "the shit". You have to make sure that pinmame is updated to the latest. I'm pretty sure that the offical 3.2 from toxie has it, and I'm darn sure that carny's build has it. Obviously I run with Carny's so, I haven't really tested the official without the color dmd code stuff.

My suggestion now is - make sure you have the latest pinmame. Delete the whole registry entry as you did before and it should work. If it doesn't, well - then I'm very surprised, or you only believe that your are running the latest. Anyway. The registry should be under \\hkcu\software\freeware\visual pinmame\<romname>\ddraw - double click and change the value. Again. Should NOT be needed.

There is also a trick. You can create \\hkcu\software\freeware\visual pinmame\default\ddraw with a 32word. name it of course ddraw and give it a value of 0. What then happens is that pinmame sees that there is a default value set for this key and it will override any new rom that hasn't been fired up with that value as default.

It has been mentioned a few times before.

Or you can add this in the table script, in the "Table1_Init" section, it's like adding "Rol" for the DMD rotation.

.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("ddraw") = 0

With the modification to the script, however, first you have to launch the table without Exclusive Fullscreen enabled,

because the script has to modify the registry key "ddraw", at the second launch of the table you can enable the Exclusive Fullscreen.

Dear Sverre, dear Kiwi,

I have done all you recommended, see screenshots:

Attached File  Excalibur ROM error.jpg   25.28KB   7 downloads

Attached File  Excalibur ROM error 2.jpg   31.03KB   6 downloads

Unfortunately the table still does not start.

Thank you for your readyness to support gentlemen.

Any other idea?

That is odd. You have of course tested the rom via pinmame only to see if it validates and starts ?

Do you have an exact link to your table ?

Just wanted to chime in and say I've been having this same problem for a long while. Specifically WWF Royal Rumble today.
Unfortunately, I started recently using a 4K monitor for my work, but run most 3D accelerated games at 1080.. my only option without using exclusive fullscreen is the monitor's full native resolution, which is just slightly over what my GPU can smoothly handle  :)

I tried every combination of the ddraw and direct3d keys with the latest 10.6 beta, but no dice. Latest stable release of Pinmame 3.2 resolved it for me.
Per Thalamus, doesn't hurt to install the latest version again to be sure:

Hope you get it working!

I do not know how to test a rom. However I tried the VP9 and the VPX version of the table, both have the same behaviour.

Like outhere says. You will then find the "Test" button. It has the text. "This will allow you to test your Visual PinMAME installation".

Now the roms come up and you of course scroll to the one in question. And you press the "Check Roms" button.

It will open the zip file and see through the rom files. All should show you a OK for state.

If they don't - that is the reason that you get errors and you need to find a correct rom. That is when you head over to VPU.

Ok, now back from Port Elisabeth I made the test. ALL ROMs have defects!

Most have "ROM set is missing, VPinMAME can't run the game",

some "There are CRC or length errors! VPinMAME may or may not successfully be able to use the ROM set. If sound ROMs are missing sound will be disabled"

Is there a method to supplement the missing "ROM set"?

We know about the problematic situation with this manufacturer, can some send me PN with hints?

Each message will be apprecitated, my best regards, Christian.

Well - you've got friends. Just give me a list of the missing roms or go to VPU as I suggested. You see. Yes, these are old machines. Most of the roms hasn't changed in ages, but, some actually have. Better dumps etc. Carny has been keeping up with all this stuff so downloading roms from that site will get you valid copies. However, there is a catch, and that applies to my rom collection as well. In order to save space. You kind of have the mother rom that has almost all the files that all the variations hasn't. Then the variations have the changes. Problem is, if you don't have the mother rom you end up being short of running the game. This does not apply for all roms I should add. But these cases does exists and you should be aware of it.
