BAYWATCH (SEGA 1995) ALTERNATE 16x9 DUAL BACKGLASS WITH AND WITHOUT DMD AREA + EXTRAS

This should be a treat for fans of the Sega "Baywatch" table. There has NOT been a nice VPX version made yet (HINT HINT HINT to anyone willing to make one) and I still running the VP9 version) but this is one of my favorite tables ... "and I don't know why?"

Anyway, I recently did a complete upgrade / clean up of my entire pin cab system which included the Pin2 and Pin3DMD Color DMD rom package which all looked terrific ... except ... Baywatch.

As many of you already know, several Sega tables used a larger DMD screen that when displayed on a normal / real DMD sized screen looks pretty awful and literally unreadable when displayed like a Pin2 and PinDMD3 display like the one in my cab.

The only option until now for using a real DMD was to turn "ON" the Virtual DMD and shut OFF the real DMD. This resulted in having a decent looking Virtual DMD image, but it had to moved onto the backless area somewhere to be legible, but it kind of ruined the whole "look" because the original Baywatch backglass was not designed / setup to ALSO fit a DMD image on it without having to show the whole grill area as well which "squished / squashed" the image on a 1920x1080 monitor. It just didn't look very good.

After upgrading everything on my cab system, this whole DMD thing for this table kind of was an eye sore to me, so I decided to create an alternative.

I actually saw an "Alternate" 4x3 backglass printout that someone was selling on eBay, but quickly realized I had seen some of the images they used to create it on readily available in a google search for images.

Pretty quickly, I found all the original images online and cobbled together my own 16x9 widescreen version (the dimensions of my backglass monitor) in HI-RESOLUTION +plus I decided to add some additional goodies to the overall package I am offering the the Virtual Pinball community.

ABOUT THE BACKGLASS FILES:

Baywatch (Sega 1995) ALT-16x9-Dual-With-DMD.directb2s - New alternate 16x9 version with a DMD area provided. This backglass has 2 (dual) modes, Authentic (if you can call it that) and Fantasy. Authentic has a light animation for the title BAYWATCH + overall backglass lighting, and Fantasy is completely lit (no lighting fx) version of the backglass. You can change from Authentic (default) to Fantasy by right+clicking on the backglass image and select Mode towards the top of the screen, then SAVE your settings.

Baywatch (Sega 1995) ALT-16x9-Dual-No-DMD.directb2s - New alternate 16x9 version without the DMD area.

If you aren't using a real DMD, simply move / scale the Virtual DMD image to fit into the space provided on the backglass for the DMD screen.

If you ARE using a real DMD and want to turn it off for just this table so you can use the Colored Virtual DMD (pal file) you will need to add the following text towards the bottom of your dmddevice.ini file found in your VPinMame folder:

[baywatch]
pindmd2 enabled = false
pindmd3 enabled = false
virtualdmd enabled = true
virtualdmd left = 2490
virtualdmd top = 820
virtualdmd width = 780
virtualdmd height = 260

[bay_401]
pindmd2 enabled = false
pindmd3 enabled = false
virtualdmd enabled = true
virtualdmd left = 2490
virtualdmd top = 820
virtualdmd width = 780
virtualdmd height = 260

If the DMD image doesn't line up properly, or your monitor sizes are different than 1920x1080, you might need to tweak the left, top, width, height settings.

EXTRAS:

Because I was now going to use a Virtual DMD on the backglass screen instead of my real PinDMD3, I needed something to fill the "blank space" on my DMD screen. I created a 30 second video (Baywatch-Color-RealDMD-128x32.mp4) that you can pin in your front end software like PinballX so it will run this DMD video during gameplay. Make sure to turn 'OFF' the 'Hide DMD' option in PinballX for this particular table so it will say on the screen when it loads.

Additionally, I created 3 different 'BAYWATCH' Wheel images you can use in you front end software like PinballX.

- Enjoy!

HINT HINT HINT - Can someone please make a VPX version of Baywatch (Sega 1995) ... thanks!

Looking forward to trying this backglass. I think Bitchwatch is one of the worst theme I have seen, with an ugly backglass to boot. Really hate the theme (hey loaf tell us how you REALLY feel)

Anyway horrid theme aside two years ago at the Ottawa pinball and gameroom show, I decided to burden myself and give her another chance.

So I winced half a dozen times, walked up to the pin, did a pretend spit on the backglass and pressed the start button on the real pin. About 30 min later Im looking back at an epic game and found a whole new appreciation of Babewatch.

In an alternate reality I truly believe its possible another theme was used with the same layout/shots and its a top 20 pin. The shots are excellent with decent variety and getting back to thread, we needed a better backglass soooo...

... Thank you Hirez00!!! Although Im looking forward to a VPX version the current version is still fun to play and this backglass at least helps me keep the nausea level down

P.s. I hope someday someone mods the Rom to another theme

But you are right, the Girls Laughing during Game ( i think Bonus ), and more, is really ... ! ... can you here me ? ;)

But the Table Overall is nice, and i love 6 Player Tables for a Fun Tournament !

I reached out to Kiwi about his Baywatch WIP. He says he is working on other things and doesn't know when he will have a chance to re-visit working on the Baywatch table. We're just going to have to be patient.
