File Name: Firepower (Drop Target Mod) – (Williams 1980) 1.2

File Submitter: DarthMarino

File Submitted: 17 Feb 2018

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): DarthMarino
WED21
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is an updated version of WED21's Firepower VPX table. The prototype version of the game used 6 drop targets but for the production run, they were replaced with standup targets to increase reliability in the field. The games ROM still works with them however and people have done this mod to the real table.  Both versions are included with this release (switchable in the script).

I have redrawn the apron and reworked the background for desktop users.

Note on the "Deluxe" version:  This version of the game (frpwr_c7) can be played with the drop targets but there will be some minor gameplay issues.  Some of the new play features such as mission mode will not reset the drop targets and you will sometimes see the target down despite the corresponding light blinking. This is controlled by the ROM and cannot be fixed.  If this happens, Hitting the one or two remaining targets in the bank will reset all 3.

***To switch to the standard production targets, change line 51 in the script from DTMod=1 to DTMod=0. To use a center post, change line 68 in the script from CenterPost=0 to CenterPost=1.***

Does using the stand up targets change the scoring? The standup target can be hit repeatably but the drop target drops after the first hit, until it's reset.

No, so theoretically your scores will be lower with the mod on.

Why would scores be lower? Shouldn't they at least be the same?

The value for hitting them is the same but since all six standup targets are always available you will hit them more often. If you never miss than the scores would be the same.

how hard would it be to have the drop target top visible if its in the down position?  Also I've never seen a center post between the flippers on this table.  Is that another prototype thing?  Really love VP for being able to bring to life tables that I would never been able to play.  Thanks

That wouldn't be hard at all. I'm working on version 1.1 and I will include the tops of the targets. I didn't do the original VPX table for this so I'm not sure why the center post is there. Maybe I should make that an option.
