File Name: Rock (Gottlieb 1985)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 12 Nov 2017

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1985
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Based on the Gottlieb table from 1985.
Thanks to Darquayle for all the pictures of the real table and for testing the table.

The table can use both ROM, the "rock" or the "rock_enc" (just change it in the script). The rom "rock_enc" includes different music.

All the graphics were redrawn by me using the images supplied by Darquayle. Of course the images of the people were just a copy/paste job, otherwise they would look like a Dalí painting :)

Wow. Again ? Great releases from you JP week after week. Thank you very much. Can't say I know this table, so that alone is exciting.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Play a few games. Works very well. Physics are good. I enjoy playing. :dblthumb: :otvclap:

But a little bug is there, it seems.

You can't get an extraball. The lights went out, when you hit extraball, but there is no one. :tapping:

JP is truly incredible.  I've owned this table since 1989 and until the last few years it was the only table I've ever owned.  I was able to take various screen shots of the table and JP did his magic.  I'm still not sure how he was able to put them all together with such perfection.  He also captured the flow of the table really well.  The loop flows exactly like the original.  He really did a great recreation.  THANKS JP.

I have set all to "Extraball" on the DIP Menu ( F6 ), but the same ... JP your Help is needed :)

Yes, it's with both ROMs. So, I think, it's table based.

I'll test the table later today, we are expecting visits at home :) But I think when I tested the table I had to hit that loop twice to get the extra ball, and I didn't thought anymore about it, I guessed it was like it is supposed to be.

Thanks for this great table JP, it looks very clean and the gameplay is addictive.

I have to say Todd and his team did also a really great job on the real table (video).

Regarding the Extra Ball, I tried both ROMs and it did not work, I also tried to change the game mode settings (F6) because in very few cases settings acting vice versa, but this did not help here.

On the left instruction card, you can see that you have to complete both extra ball rollovers to get the extra ball, so one strong and clean shot is needed.
When completeting both rollovers and (not) "getting" the Extra Ball you can hear the replay knocker. Regardless whether the game mode is set to replay or extra ball.

I try many times to get the extraball and I never get him.

Here's a little video with extraball on. I hit that loop twice. After the first loop, the lights went out. But no eb is coming.

I believe the issue is with the ROM settings.  Over the last couple of days I tested both the Rock and Rock Encore roms.  Both of them worked as I expected.  Today, I made some ROM setting changes to the Encore table using the F6 button and now I too experience the issue on this version (same table, different ROM).  I did not change any settings on the regular Rock version and it still works correctly.

Also, for clarification, once you are in the mode to get extra ball, you just need to hit the ball thru the loop successfully (loop + outer left lane) and it will give you the extra ball.... assuming the ROM is configured correctly.

I'll look at my docs to see if I can provide any clarity on settings need to be changed.
