File Name: Big Game

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 20 Jun 2017

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 1980
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Based on the Stern table from 1980. This table was designed by Harry Williams.
This is another rebuild from scratch
The graphics are almost the same as in my VP9 table, I only changed them a little.
I made a new apron and backdrop, and changed the light inserts. I also fixed a few small details in the plastics and the playfield. They aren't great, but they will do for now.

Thanks JP, a most excellent release and in the 80's, this machine was the reason why I went to one of the bowling alleys back then. :)

Update 1.0.1
- the top kicker was visible (that's the main reason of the update)
- lowered the flipper return strength so they work more like the real table.
- Added the rules to the table info

I consider the table finished now. Unless someone find nice images to replace the playfield and plastics :)

Retired .. very glad you don't know the definition of that word ;-)

Thank you again ... and again JP. I just converted this to PM5 :)

Just finished some rounds on it and man - this plays really well. Super happy !

Edited by Thalamus, 20 June 2017 - 06:17 PM.

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Update 1.0.2

- fixed B & G top left lights

And I thought 1.0.1 it was finished :) Bugs always keep crawling in :)

Retired? Who? Me? I was supposed to be, but then VPX came... :)

Hi JP, for some reason I had to modify line 273 from this:

Sub Drain_Hit:Me.Destroyball: End Sub

To this

Sub Drain_Hit:Me.Destroyball: bsTrough.AddBall Me: End Sub

or I don't get a ball after the drain.

EDIT: probably should of commented it out, and comment in previous line..

I have reuploaded the table. I forgot to remove that line. I use to do that to test my tables, so I can keep hitting targets with new balls to test if everything is ok. But I forgot to change that line back :)

Here is a bug with the special light (l46)on the left side. The lamp is in the game always on(without special lit).

That light is working fine. It may look like it is on since the gi light makes it brighter. But when it turns on, then you'll notice it :)

UPDATE

4.0.0 Updated 7.9.2022
- Updated to my VPX7 physics
- cleaned up and deleted unused graphics & reduced the size of the table
- Added my VPX7 LUT changer to darken the table (hold down LEFT CTRL while change with RIGHT CTRL). Including GI brightness adjustment. Use the LUT changer together with the day/night slider to give the table the level of darkness you prefer.
- Updated my mechanical set of sounds to a more "under the glass" sound, as people seem to like those kind of sounds better.
- Changed the Environment image to enhance a little the object shadows.
- Made the light inserts warmer.
- New playfield in 4k (ish :))
- Added SSF sound commands.
