I'm trying to do a simple update to the alphanumeric scoring on an existing db2s. Basically I just want to change the color and style of the alphanumeric characters on the graphical DMD. I can open the backglass file, and I can make the changes. I'm running into a problem when I go to save the updated file. It tells me that I need to update the background image because I changed the alpha display. I can't load the image in again because the only place this image exists on my machine is in the backglass file itself. 

 

Do I need to get a new copy of the image from outside the original backglass? Can it somehow be exported from the backglass to my system and then reloaded? Or is this an error message I should even be getting? I looked through the doc with the designer program, but maybe I'm just missing something.

In you Case, just click on the LED and Change Colors, then at upper menu: Backglass / create directb2s File ...
Your new File is at Projects / Name / .directb2s File

I was changing the scoring display on a newer version of the Gold Wings backglass to better match the real machine. I was able to click on the existing alpha numeric display and make the changes I wanted. The problem I was running into was when I was trying to save the updated file. Maybe that's what I was doing wrong. I'll try what you suggest and see if maybe I was just going about the final step incorrectly.

 

To be honest I wouldn't mind updating the DMD graphic but couldn't find any high res images of it when searching. I may try to find someone who owns the machine and who is willing to get me a high res photo. For now though I can live with at least making the changes to the alpha display.

Thanks STAT. I think I was just trying to go about the db2s creation in the wrong place.

I have found if your having a problem trying to save create db2s backglass after making changes on score displays it is usually over lapping numbers on the displays, if you delete them all and start adding them again in sequence it usually fixes the problem.  May or may not be your problem but I have ran into this so maybe it will help.  32a wording is corrrect it will save but creating is what I was talking about

if you import a db2s file into the editor,  make chances and then save the file.

 

you are not creating a new db2s file.  you are simply saving a project.

 

once you made all your changes to the file you are trying to modify,

you need to click on the Backglass (top) menu and click on "create db2s Backglass"

 

a new modified db2s file will be created in the editors projects folder, the original file you imported into the editor will be left unmodified.

and if you find a higher quality image for Gold Wings, let me know,  I redrew the grill but I never found a decent quality image to create a dB2s file.
