How to make custom plastic ramps in 3DS max:
Hello, it's your old pal Dark with a video tutorial on how to build your own plastic ramps in 3D. Although I use 3DS max the same technique could be applied to any software. I was going to speed up parts of the video to make things move faster but I thought people may appreciate me making the video slower, detailed and easier to follow.
Some basic guidelines to follow for ramp building:
1. Get a ramp guide, whether you use VP ramp objects exported as objs or use the older method of using Future Pinball ramps as guides just be sure that your ramp guide has been tested on your table and it works fine in regards to how the ball travels along the ramp. You don't want the ball to dip below or float above the ramp floor, or intersect with any ramp walls. If you don't have a guide don't bother because you'll just end up giving yourself a headache trying to make it work without one.
2. Study photos: You need a plan of action, if there are certain details on a ramp that are kind of abnormal you may need to think how you will incorporate these details ahead of time.
3.First ramp segment: Take your time to get the first ramp segment right as it will dictate how easy the rest of it will go. (see video).
4. Switch views: Every time you extrude a section of the ramp or make a large adjustment be sure to rotate the view and check your work from multiple angles.
5. Rotate/move on specific axis: In the video you will see me rotate and move sections of ramp, in most cases it's done on a specific axis in order to restrict it's movement to that axis and keep things aligned.
