something is wrong with the sounds on this table. They are really messed up. Speech is distored, there are no background music sound effects at all. Just the physcial sounds and speech elements. Sometimes it will glitch with a high pitched squeel that makes the cats rip ass through the house wondering where it's coming from. smile.gif

i've tried both sets of roms with no avail. I think the sound rom is missing or something. I can try and get a different image for you guys if it is the sound image. I'm sure Dave G has it.

David Gersic provided the rom images. So it's still broken sound emulation.

so you need a new sound image? I can try and track a better image down from real zac owners, if you think it will help.

No, I think the roms are fine, it's our emulation that isn't perfect for these games yet.

The following games also use a similar sound board and have the same issue with sound emulation.

Zaccaria Clown, Mexico 86, Pool Champ, Spooky and Zankor

I hope the sound emulation can get fixed in this boardset someday, they are all fun games and would be great on our cabs.

I agree. I am really digging these Zaccaria tables. They are challenging with neat layouts.

So what does it take to get a sound emulation working? Is it something that has to be programmed? Too bad it wasn't simple sound enhancements- then I could perhaps help out being a music guy...but programming i know squat about unfortunately.

Thanx for pumping these out!

These games use 2 sound boards that are not emulated by vpinmame.
Here is some info in case you are interested.

what's the process like, to include an emulation like this? need hardware to run off of, or is it all programming stuff?

You could contact LordNightmare of MAMEDev - he's the last person who worked on the TMS chips, and then Gerrit tweaked his code a bit to make it sound clearer for some games.
Mostly it's working out lookup tables for the sound processing, which I don't know much about or I'd do it myself... smile.gif

not familiar with MAMEDev. Remember i'm new to emulation stuff again. Last time I dabbled in mame, was back in the day when MAME 95 was the main emulation program, and you could only do arcades. Now you can emulate everything it seems.
