File Name: Scared Stiff 99x Shoopity

File Submitter: Shoopity

File Submitted: 22 May 2015

File Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Author(s): Shoopity
Unbeknownst them:
Dozer
JPSalas
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1996
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Not sure I want to call this a "MOD"; TONS of credit goes towards JPS and Dozer for physical walls and what-not, and plenty of code, but I feel I've added enough unique things that this warrants its own version.  Forgive me if I'm wrong in thinking that.  Just as important as JPSalas and Dozer are, are the people who made this table for Future Pinball; Fransisco666, GLXB, and Highlnder00.  I pulled the primitives from that table.  I did not gain permission first, but I don't know how.  One of the very few ways I contributed to this was to take those textured primitives and baked out some bump-mapped textures for slightly more realism.

Reasons you may like this version over others:

  • Tons-O-Primitives; they look great and make the table angle independent
  • -Bone-y Beast and all the spines; all spines have red Flasher textures at appropriate times
  • -Bone Pile; reacts to red flasher and has light-up eyes tied to the Tales-of-Terror spots
  • -Stiff-in-the-Coffin; lights up to the Spot Light pointed at it (which ironically... I don't think I put in yet), Cadaver is tied to a gate so it rotates smoothly
  • -Boogie Men; their arms even wobble
  • -All slings; animated by moving the primitives (as opposed to multiple primitives becoming visible/invisible at appropriate times)
  • -Lock sign that lights up appropriately
  • -The crate (but honestly there's no need for that to be a primitive)
  • -All of the Claw Flashers; And of course the have Flasher objects
  • -The Flippers, mainly for angle independency
  • -The bottom Lane guides; mainly for lighting effects and angle indepencency
  • -The Leapers; They really react appropriately to getting hit.  If you want to seem them go in slow-motion (and silky smooth), search the code for "slowmo" and lower the number
  • -The plunger; yes, this is the first table I've released to implement my primitive plunger with compressing rings.  If you just want to see this plunger in its full glory, place the PrSpring1 object anywhere on the table.
  • -The bumpers, and of course they're fully animated (and are tied to the game ROM's solenoids, so doing things like getting the monster's lab on the Spider Wheel makes them sound and activate).
  • Speaking of Flashers, I've toned mine down; I personally feel this looks a little more realstic.
  • The Spider, and its rewards, are all flashers.  You can place the spider wherever you want in the editor and the rewards follow.  Also, sticking with the angle independent theme, the spider will always be facing you.  Or course, due to Field of View and Layback settings, this can make things look... odd.  But the spider still rotates silky smooth (or, at least as smooth as VPM implements the toy).
  • Some Flashers up by the Bone Pile.  I rarely get a chance to play real pinball so I don't know what these actually are.  In the promo video (which is probably using a prototype machine), the Bone Pile is lit from the back with Flashers.  Since I don't want to go through the trouble of implemented a multi-textured primitive (regular, reactive the red flasher, also light from underneath like the Bone-y Beast Skull), I just put some Flasher objects in front of it.
  • I re-did all the table lamps using a different technique.  My feelings won't be hurt if you think they're not too dim.
  • I chose not have regular lamps fade; I'm pretending they're LEDs which really don't fade like an incandescent bulb does.
  • "Better" implementation of the Lock diverter... I think.

Reasons to check out/stay with the older version(s):
  • Holy crap, too many primitives; they look like dried-out, reconstituted bird dookie.  Please use real photos next time.
  • What happened to all the awesome reflections!?
  • These Flashers Suck!! I can't show off how awesome VP or my cab are with this whale vomit
  • I can't stand these physics, I used to be a pro at this table (in all honesty, if you go to the Backdrop of the old table and copy/paste the physics from there, you'll get a very similar, if not identical, play)

Well, like I said, this table should be angle independent, so it's just a matter of changing the BackDrop settings.  I was never any good at the fine tuning of things, and I don't have a cab (or even a monitor with a swivel on it) to test that sort of stuff out.  You could using Dozer's settings.

unable to download..

All the uploads to the site must be checked by Noah before we can download them (or maybe any other moderator) so we don't download virus or similar. So just wait some hours, or maybe a day or two, and eventually it will be ready for download :)

Thx for the work!!!!! :otvclap:

Is there a (general) tutorial around how to do this "magic computer code" stuff for a newbie ??????  I won´t know where to start... :love39:

Great job on modding this table and making enhancing table with 3d elements. I thank you.

One area I think needs some tweaking is the lighting. Its too bright. The PF and object details get lost.

Hey, this is a very cool Version! I like in very much !
I rotated the table for my cab and it looks quite good, unfortunately I did'nt get the spider of the B2S-Backglass working :-( I tried to compare the script with the other Versions where the spider rotates well, but no success at all :-(
Any hint what to change ??

Oops.  Well, are you saying you put the code in to add B2S?  I personally didn't include any code what-so-ever for it.  Previous versions use EM reels for the spider/rewards; this version uses a Flasher object.

Did you put in code to launchthe B2S, or is the problem you're having that the B2S isn't even launching?  If it's the latter, step 1 would be to copy the code from previous tables that launches the controller (near the top of the code).  If it's the former,  won't be able to look too close into this until Tuesday, but I'm know lots of other people are more than capable of helping.

I'll update the table to include B2S code (and disable animating the Spider Flasher to save resources) "soon."

I have no idea if this looks any good (and won't be able to until the 26th), but if you wanted to play around until then, search for the following code:

(step*31.875)

And lower that 31.675.  There should be ONLY three instances.  If you half it to 15.9375, it should half the GI lighting effect.

Or, you could replace the 31.875 with "gistep" (I'm not sure why I didn't do this to begin with) so that it says "(step*gistep)", then you can just lower what gistep is equal to.  Doing that will make it easier to dial in a good look as you only replace the 3 numbers once, then you can adjust what gistep is equal to and the changes will take effect to all three GI strings.

Well, I just changed the controller to "B2S.Server" as usual...the backglass lauches fine, but the spider doesn't rotate...the rest of the backglass seems to work fine...so I tried to figure out what code makes the spider totate in the other versions, but no success....

See ya....jas
