Black Knight VP91x 2.2.1

Version: 2.2.1
Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas

Description:
Based on Black Knight made by Williams in 1980.
Here it is a table which doesn't need introduction: Black Knight was the first table to use facelet inserts, magna saves, two playfields.

I made this table for two friends from Argentina, Jolo and Leo so they can use it in their cabinet. The table is angle independent, so it is easy to change the view and to rotate it, there are a few instructions in the table info, and an extra backdrop if you prefer the full view without the dmd.

Not much more to say about the table, it is a standard JP VP9 table With fading lights and fast action

Updated the table to version 1.1

I have merged the changes from the alternate version (backdrop scoring lights, the Black Knight backdrop and the bell sound) with the regular version.

New in this updated 1.1

- merged the "normal" and the alternate version
- gameplay adjustments by kristian, making the table a little more difficult and chalenging
- added Gi (it only turns off during the atract mode and multiplay)
- added new angle independent rails, making the table now completely angle independent.

Take a look at the table info for a few tips about changing angles smile.gif

Update 2.1
- The only change are the transparent plastics.

JP

Update 2.2
- Just updated for VP91x, I only added the plastic borders and changed some settings. The reason for the update was to add higher resolution graphics to the FS version.

Update 2.2.1
- Adjusted launch ball speed to match the strength of the real table.
- Added "Ball to Ball collision" and support for analog plunger by kruge99

These are my tables, sorted by date, all them playable with VPX 7 or newer:

After 18 years making tables, it is time to take a rest and let new authors do their thing.

I guess at last I'll play some more pinball :). But I'm sure I'll make some table updates from time to time :)

The table is a classic, and JP's version looks stunning. What a difference with an earlier version (no offence to that particular author). Playing it is just not my cup of tea but you again made a lot of people happy!

Hi JPSalas,

after a few played games, your Black Knight table is super.

I Have a question: With the first and the second 2 Million points i got many knocks(3 or 4), sounds like a freegame knock).

I can't remember is this in the real table, too?

Ok guys. I'm getting some weird bug. When I hit the right flipper more a few time the table tilts. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey everybody. Just a quick question, and if it doesn't belong here, I do apologize.
VP9 has been working great except for when I try to play a JP/Groni/or Scapino table. For some reason when it's preparing the table, I get an error message saying:

"Could not create offscreen surface" and sometimes it says "Could not create offscreen Z surface"

Has anyone else ever had this problem, or know what it means, and how to fix it?
I've ignored it before, and just played the VP8 versions of the games, but these recent releases (twilight zone and black knight and theater of magic) really make me want to get this working.

Thanks in advance!
Joe

I am sorry, but I have to reply again... this recreation of Black Knight in VP9 is absolutely f'n AWESOME!!! (sorry for dropping the f-bomb) but I haven't played a VP version of Black Knight before that "captured" the essence and feel of the Black Knight table I first played in Stouffville Ontario Canada in the summer of 1981!!! Although I had played pinball machines before, Black Knight changed me forever. All summer long, I went back to that burger joint on Main St. in Stouffville to play Black Knight with every quarter I could lay my hands on from my allowance. I mean this in all seriousness!!!

JP, from my personal memory when I was only 12 years old, this is by far the most accurate representation, to me, of a brand new Black Knight table circa 1981 I have ever played on a PC. Worship.gif Thank you for bringing the summer of 1981 back to life for me!! (and yes, I was short for a 12 year old and had to play Black Knight with one of the diner chairs so I could see well enough to play)

Other people no doubt will have different opinions and experiences and that is 100% ok with me and I won't argue with them, but for me, this version will make me relive the summer of 1981 all over again and again. Thank you!!!

Best Regards,
Todd.
