File Name: Pinball Champ '82 (Zaccaria 1982) FS VP9.9

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 16 Oct 2014

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Zaccaria
Year: 1982
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Pinball Champ '82 by Zaccaria, Full Screen edition.

For this pin I used the playfield, uploaded by TAB. Thank You for Your work, TAB!
Romuluz provided me with high res plastics images and all sorts of photos and documentation. Kellogs too sent me some images of his real pin, so that I was able to recreate the apron and improve some plastics.

Thanks to Destruk and Luvthatapex, who created the previous VP8/VP9 versions. The code of this tables helped me to understand the flipper functionality used by Zaccaria.

Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Awesome.

I think you have outdone yourself. This plays exactly like the real thing.

Thank you very much.

"What a low score, try harder!"

Wow, now even the table is criticizing my pinball skills! Lol.

Thanks mfuegemann and all those involved for a really nice table!

It plays awesome and the colors are so bright you need sunglasses to play it.  :8):

I've never played this table before but I can already tell it's going to make my favorites list, (smart mouthed computer not withstanding)

Backglass for this is on "the other Side". There is also a B2S for the 83 Version which is compatible, because Rom is identical.

Tried this last night, what a wonderful job you did with it. I am a Physmod fan but I must say your recreation plays extremely well as is! Thanks to all who assisted with this too.

Hi akiles,

"Earth Wind Fire" looks nice, please send the images over, if possible.

Do You have any resources of Gottlieb's Waterworld? I have the images, Noah uploaded to his Photobucket site, but I am lacking of any good plastics images.

Regards

Michael

Really nice job. I tired collecting resources for this one at one point, but never got any replies to my thread.

You must have the magic touch with people!

Great tables. I love all the Zaccaria tables.

Cheers,

Maceman

EDIT: Actually, in hindsight, Romulus did offer to end me some stuff, so i shouldn't say i never got any replies!

As maceman said - great tables and I too love all the Zaccaria ones Great job on this one.

I read a post over on pinballarcade that they are looking to do a crowdfunding (similar to kickstarter) to hopefully bring the Zaccaria app to Steam with cabinet support. Fingers crossed :)

Thank you for another beautiful table :)

I encountered an quite interesting bug on the upper playfield - I flipped the left upper flipper in the last second of the upper playfield's timeout. The timeout expired and the flipper was stuck in the up position, catching the ball.

I nudged the ball of the flipper after a while, tilting the table several times in the process. The stuck flipper became unstuck again after the ball fell off the upper playfield.

I noticed the same upper flipper behavior as well multiple times but didn't have the ball caught on it like that.

Very cool table! Quick question. . . . is there no background music/sound? The table is very quiet, with just the slings, bumpers and targets making noise. I have a feeling I'm missing something and there should be more noise/sounds but can figure out where to look. The volume (the red/yellow/green segment bar is all the way up).

Shoot, never mind!  I restarted VP and have the sounds! Love the table!

Thanks!

Great Table , Thank You . Never got to play this table before and the timers make it great fun. Definitely a tournament table on my cab

Small Bug : I'm having the same issue as Sir Cheddar, i have tested this several times with the same result, If timer runs out on top playfield and you are holding the ball the flipper gets stuck and wont release the ball.

Cheers

Hi,

You Guys find almost impossible bugs! Thank You for that. I thought I had the upper playfield in order by adding a "rotatetostart" to the Ramp-Exit-Trigger. I never thought of catching the ball.

There will be a way to fix that.

Regards

Michael

OK, here is the solution to the aforementioned upper flipper bug:

In the script, locate line 60 for the upper flipper handling routine, then insert the highlighted (red) lines:

Sub TopFlipperRelay(Enabled)
   if enabled then
      TopFlipperActive = True
   else
      TopFlipperActive = False
      ULeftFlipper.Rotatetostart
      URightFlipper.Rotatetostart
   end if
End Sub

Michael, just to make this table even better than it is already, could you add ball rolling sounds? Right now I don't hear any... also, a sound for plunger pull, and maybe the metallic sound for the habitrail shooting lane (similar to what gtxjoe used in Farfalla) would be a nice touch.

Oh, and if I remember correctly, the spinner also has a sound when spinning.

Finally, the Red Special light is rather purple instead of red... and the long left side lane buttons are purple too. I'm pretty sure those were all a darker red on the real table.

(yes, I know I'm demanding, but I like this table a lot so anything improving it is nice to have :))

Hi htamas,

I found the same solution a moment before. I will add some more changes before the next version. So for the others until then, just add the two lines at line 65.

Romuluz suggested bigger flippers with texture, a more transparent upper PF and some more changes.

Michael

Sounds great, thanks for improving the table :)

Personally, I feel the flippers are pretty good the way they are... not sure bigger flippers are a good idea, but at the same time, it was 30 years ago when I last played this in real life so I don't remember. Now looking at photos on IPDB, it appears the upper playfield flippers are indeed a little longer (less gap) on the real table and all flippers are a little chubbier. To me it seems like the lower flipper length is perfect right now.

More transparent upper playfield sounds good.

I really think you nailed the physics of the real table, at least it feels that way, based on memory.

As usual, the VP table is a little easier to play than the real thing but it's a lot of fun and it is really close to the original.
