File Name: King_Of_Diamonds(Gottlieb)(1967)(LX)(FS_DB2S_VP990)(1.2)

File Submitter: Fratazzo

File Submitted: 10 Jun 2014

File Category: VP 9.x B2S Cabinet Tables (B2S)

Author(s): Fratazzo
DOF by Arngrim, thanks for testing too
Graphics come from the FP version with very small tweaks, many thanks to Popotte
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1967
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Hi all,

Version 1.2 comes with some improvements, as requested.
Table now plays smoother, is more easy to play, but not too easy...
Nudging is more "real"
I added some sounds, rolling and bouncing.

The High score routine can be disabled, pressing the key "S"; this will be kept in memory and saved leaving the game.
The high score will not be showed until "S" is pressed once again.

Maybe someone will not agree because this is "illegal", but an italian friend asked me to add a backbang routine.
We all have tried this at least once in our life...
Here it is, but be careful: Table will turn off as slam tilt if the ball is outside the classic "back bang zone"!

Have fun

Good lookin!

There's 2 files to download, and both have the same size and filename......... I assume is 1.0 and one is 1.01 but can't tell the difference.

Hi Frenetic,

don't care at the first one, it is the 1.00 and there is a little bug in the nudge routine.

Sorry for that, but I don't know how i can delete this file from the download list...

Game is brutal but addictive, there's only 2 lines you have if you hope not to instant-drain...so hard to get the ball to the upper playfield! But I keep trying...oh boy. Thanks for this one, I love EM Gottliebs

Yeah...

Just don't get angry, try and try! when the ball enters in the left or right lanes, just nudge and several times you can save it.

It's the true copy of the original, scores are very low, and it's very hard to get specials...

But it's a Gottlieb, there is not the middle way, or we hate or we love them! And like you, i love old Gottliebs.

Wait another pair of weeks, and you'll get another pair of pearls, i'm working around Rocket III and Paradise.

Lotta work, but lotta satisfaction!

Excellent table Fratazzo.  Superb - thank you!    Thanks also to Popotte for his awesome redraws.

One suggestion would be to add ball rolling sounds and the tap sounds of the ball hitting parts of the table :)

Thanks for this re-creation. This game is by far one of my favorite EM games of all time. This version plays REALLY fast compared to the real machine.  I'd love to see a physmod version of this.

Really cool rework, love this table even more with the shinny new graphics!  Great job!!!

One question and I hate to ask as it's seems we are never satisfied. The high score is a nice feature but I prefer my tables to be realistic as possible. Is there an easy way to turn off the high score, or at least disable the instruction text that pops up on the backglass?

Edit:  I figured out the instructions being an illumination frame.

Regarding the high score: it doesn't quite seem to work correctly or maybe it's just user error... but other than selecting the first letter, it doesn't let you enter anything else. How do I pick the second (and third) letter? By hitting the 'Start game' button like it usually is, it ends the process. So what's the button to go to the next letter?

It is the plunger button.

Took us awhile to figure it out as well.

Hi all,

sorry to be late, i'm very busy at the current time.

Yes, the table is brutal, as is, and i decided to modify something to make it more playable...

hope to do this tonight, when i'll be at home, hope not too late.

Hi score can be managed with left-right flippers (select a letter), plunger (confirm a letter), start button (confirm initials).

Plunger ever selects next letter, overlapping.

Shadowclassic, ok for hide the high score, next release will satisfy your need...

Please make it so that you can hide it for Shadow, but don't make it go away altogether. I rarely play tables that don't save high scores

Don't worry BobAlbright...

for us "the italians", the high score on a pinball is mandatory and it's a must have. Never i'll discard it.

it will be switchable off and on, simply pressing the "S" key il will be disabled, re-enabled at the next touch.

the choice will be kept as well as the current score and the credits, then if Shadow wants play without, he can...

I'm working on playability now, less speed to the ball, and the nudge should play better, check tomorrow for the update, in Italy it's 11.40PM now, time to bed for me!

Agreed Bob, I'm fine with just a little help finding it in the script. Actually, now that I found the text box on the BG and removed it I'm happy with the table as is.

I don't want to detract from the games or upset authors. I just like to keep tables original as possible. That old OCD you know! Lol.

Actually, I really like the post-it notes or tape strips over the apron for the HS, that's the way they use to do it in the arcades and it doesn't cover up any art that way either.

Fratazzo - will you also be adding the ball rolling sounds and table 'tap' sounds when the ball hits playfields objects?  :)
