While most of you already know how to install VP there are some people who might find this new tute usefull.

SD LINK
Make sure you give it a star rating (Be nice now smile.gif )

You may want to pause it initially so it can cache a bit, depending on your download speed.

I have edited the video to also include installation of tables and how to start the tables.
This should help all newbies from now on.

There's a friend of mine who couldn't get it installed, despite all my advice after installing it on two computers. I bet this will do it for him! Thanks a lot!

Yes, I also have a friend in a similar situation. As a kid he was a pinball addict, and yet computers left him behind. I know he would love VP but he just doesnt know how to get it up and running. I suspect there are many like that.

BTW If anyone wants to translate it into thier native language, I can send them the sound file so that they can use it as a timing template, and I'll swap the file to make a different video translation.

I have been out of the pinball loop for over a year now, but getting the urge to get back in, so I went to play today and found out my version of VP has expired....
Its been awhile, and cant remember, do I have to do a complete uninstall of VP before I can get the latest version? I am assuming so after downloading the latest version and still get the same message, although it didnt make me install anything, just gave me the icon to the game.....

I have followed the installed guide and i'm still having problems, the tables are installing ok but when I put the unzipped rom file in to the rom folder I start up the pinball table and in says "there are crc and/or length errors! vpinmame may or may not success be able to use the rom set. If sound roms are missing, sound will be disabled.

LEAVE THE ROMS ZIPPED!

Didn't you stress this in your tutorial? It's one of the most important parts when dealing with this.

Are you sure you are using the correct roms? some tables need more than one rom.
Can you specify hte name of the problematic table?

Thankyou 1234fd,
Just after I wrote my last post I tested the game and realized that sometimes it said that the rom was missing even though I had entered the correct path.
Through trial and error I have now found out that this was the problem I had one rom but didn't know that I might need more than one.
and thanks to WWW who started off this post, I tried to download this emulator 3 or 4 years ago and had no luck, at least now I can get my fix until I buy a real pinball table, I think I have fallen in love with a medieval madness table that I played yesterday!

"You want to update to Visual PinMAME version 2.1 from a previous version? Download the actual version and unzip the contained VPinMAME.dll file to your Visual PinMAME installation folder (see above at step 2.). Usually that's all you need. To check if the actual version is installed, run the setup.exe file in that folder and read the 3rd line in the VPinMAME Installation Program window. It should display: *Visual PinMAME Version 2.1 is currently installed on your computer*. Then Quit."
Hmmm, tried this, still doesnt work, does anyone know EXACTLY what folder the 'dll' file goes into? If I cant get this working I guess I will do a fresh install....

As the Visual PinMAME installation folder can be chosen freely, it's probably different on everyones PC. The only one who can and should know the folder on your PC exactly is you. The only way that comes to mind to decribe it is, it's the same folder, where your rom folder is a subfolder.

I attach a screenshot to make it clear. It's where I installed. Your Visual PinMAME installation folder can be C:\games\pinball\VPM\ or D:\VisPinMAME\ or nearly everything else.

Thanx for the help guys, I'm just going to do a fresh install....

Thanks for video tutorial, WWW. I didn't watch it completely, but I think it's additional help in any case.

I just found out that anyone (not me) added the video to 'GETTING STARTED' -> 'Installation Help'.

Not that I'm against that in any way, but it's not nice to see the 'Visual Pinball (VP) and Visual PinMAME (VPM) installation/setup guide' changed by anyone else without previous request. No notice afterwards. I explicitly paid attention to document any revision and then have to find out this. And what's about WWW? Is he ok with that? And then there's no hint, that the video isn't from me, and there's no credit to WWW.

Please think about the procedure, correct it and make it better next time.

Sorry for the trouble. No drama, but I felt the urgent need to express this.

Umm...

I did it, Yogi, and I feel it's in the best place. Are we here to help everyone or just in it for the credit of our actions?

There is no point having it isolated in a separate link. Getting Started is a great resource, but it's forum-wide feature, not just yours or anyone's alone.

If it's going to be a problem, I'll draft a new one and use that for our Getting Started section.

Thanks Yogi for your concern. I dont need any credit for any part I play in this community. Anything I upload is open slather.
Your install document gets 5/5 stars. I only made the video as an additional resource for people like me, who are too lazy to read smile.gif

I added a few lines to the Visual Pinball (VP) and Visual PinMAME (VPM) installation/setup guide to explain the video content and to make clear, that the video is provided by WWW and gave him credit. Let me know of possible corrections.

Yes, it's the best place to add the video. No objection!

As I already said before, no problem/no drama, if all involved people agree, and normally they do. It was nice to become asked before anyway. I don't understand why that should be a problem. Comparably I'm not ok with anyone editing my forum posts, if that was the case. Or, if I was a table author, with modding my table without previous request. Just that simple.

I just wiped and restarted my computer. I can't get it to run no matter what I do. I've used the quick auto installer with no result, then started over doing it all manually.

Sometimes it gives a message about active X scripts, sometimes missing .vbs. They were installed. Sometimes the table comes up but doesn't run. I'm baffled, since I did it the same way as before and it doesn't work.
