I'm trying to make my first animated dB2S backglass.

I got a Batman (Data East) back glass capture from Chriz99, did some color correction and rebuilt the image.

Attached File  screen capture1.png   451.58KB   4 downloads

I read the Back Glass Designer manual and it suggests to darken the entire image, instead of doing that I decided to use the animated snippit option and only darken the images I want to flash.

Attached File  screen capture 2.png   413.33KB   4 downloads

each image found in this picture is a layer in Photoshop, it will be saved as an individual png file and added to the BG designer.

Attached File  screen capture 3.png   221.11KB   4 downloads

my question is,

What is the best way to identify the rom ID (lamp or solenoid)  for each bulb in the back glass?

 I designer manual suggests that you get the game manual.  I did that and found very limited information.

yea get the manual and look at the Solenoid table..It should tell you the number of the solenoid that activates a certain object just name your lamp that.if it says like 01 just put 1 . and some tables have GI lighting you can use... Also you can open the table in the editor and click on objects and lamps and get the numbers off them.. hope that helps some..

I found the game manual at with a picture of the backglass but it did not have any direct info :(

I got this from the script

so far I have this

Kim = S25
Joker = s25
window batman = s11
chest logo = L48
moon = L29
speaker logos = s11
5 million = L42
15 jackpot = l43
10 million = l43

Main Logo = ?
batmobile = ?
Alfred = ?
kissing bruce wayne =?
jack and girlfriend = ?
reporter = ?

I'm assuming I have to change the settings from Solenoid to Lamp if I want them to be active when the game is not in play

WIP video

it took me 15 minutes to build this in the BG designer. I guess most of the work will be done in Photoshop, it would be done if I just wanted a fantasy back glass :(

Haven't done any B2S yet, but here is some solenoid/lamp info. Hope it helps

Solenoid layout is on page 28 of the manual
Batman backbox lamp locations here, picture 29. Large bulb locations seem to line up with the solenoid layout. Overlay this pic on top of your backglass image to get the lamp locations worked out. http://www.pinball-m...inball-machine/

Lamps for the backbox scoring insert and part of moon (50,51,52,53) on page 27 of the manual.

You can run the DMD solenoid test to test your backglass. Press 8 "reverse", Press 7 "diagnostics", Press 7 until you get to "Select Coil". Use flippers to go forward/backward. Press Start button to activate the solenoid. You can test the lamps by entering diag and going to Lamp Name test

even if the pin uses a rom do you still need to use its lamp values

 or can you make yp your own like you do with an original pin lamp layout?

 at least I think that is how one makes a lamp work in the bg in an original

never having worked on one yet

the problem with picking or making up your own values is that you will just have random lights flickering.

thanks to  Enthusiassts links I was able to correct some of the lights.  they have a very detailed lamp ids for the play field but the back glass is very limited.

I was watching some YouTube videos (most just shoot the play field  :throw: )  and I noticed that their is a bat signal in the moon.

and yes I just had to add it

just like the Rocky and Bullwinkle back glass Hat Trick Animation; you need the correct rom/solenoid id in order to have it activate with the correct sequence in the game.

the lamp values found in the manual are for the playfield, the same lamp id numbers are used in the backglass but  not all bulb ids are identified in the manual.
