File Name: Kings of Steel (Bally)(1984)(chinzman93)(1.20)(FS)(9.16)

File Submitter: chinzman93

File Submitted: 24 Dec 2013

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): chinzman93
Manufacturer: Bally
Year: 1984
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Kings of Steel Bally 1984
Original Table Design: Greg Kmiec
Original Art: Doug Watson

This is my first from scratch build complete with redraws of plastics and playfield. This was built with various versions of 9.16 and 9.2. The GI ramps use additive BI, but the table should run on 9.15 as well.
The GI is a combination of alpha ramps for under the plastic lighting and the plastics were done using the dB2S designer.

I would like to thank all the great contributors to the community and in particular:

Playfield and Plastics Redraw:
TAB for his great playfield scan.
Rob046 for some excellent photo resources.
Pinuck and Rob046 for help with some fonts.

Table Build:
Luvthatapex for a great starter table and dip switch code.
UW for use of some of diverter code and some objects from his BP table.
Aaron James and Luvthatapex for playing some early versions and offering some great feedback.
Itchigo for suggesting the use of the dB2S designer for doing plastics lighting. Not it's intended purpose, but it does work.
Koadic for his plunger and controller code.
Herweh for the dB2S designer used for plastics lighting.

I apologize if I missed anyone.

Please report any issues to the support thread. I have DT version coming in a week or so depending any bug reports here.

I hope everyone enjoys it!

Merry Christmas!

Good job man.

PNG is a format more suitable for use transparencies, instead of JPG.

Here below your target converted to PNG, if you want to see the difference.

cgt.png

The targets SW18, SW19 and SW20 are invisible, just select the box "Visible Side"
and the three targets return
visible.

Thanks

Thanks Kiwi! I will add it to the next update.

Also.....3 issues have been found so far. Not deal breakers, but also will be fixed in the next release.

1) Flippers active after end of game.

2) Upper flipper should not be able to catch the ball.

3) Kicker hole on top needs some tweaking.

Well Santa kinda left me hanging again this year, sure glad all these great table authors came through with the presents, made for a really Merry Christmas at my house!

Very nice job chinzman93, the table looks and plays awesome! This is the first table I have been able to consistently pass the ball from one flipper to the next, it feels just like the real steel. Thank you very much!

One problem though, you seem to have left the giant magnet below the left drain turned on on my download, is it possible to get that turned off or reversed? ;)

I will added it to the list for the update. I figured there would be a few issues. Thanks for reporting it!

Actually chinman93, I was really just making a tongue in cheek  joke about my lack of skill at keeping the ball away from the double drain on the left side.  I've never played the table in real life so I don't know, that could be exactly how the table plays.  Don't make changes based on those comments they were all in fun.  As far as I can tell so far the table plays great and I have no noticed anything that needs fixed.  Sorry for the confusion.

Lol....That's good because I pulled all the ramps off that corner of the table to see if I had messed up something beneath and not noticed. I was just about to PM you.... :D

Yukiko,

I have an update to fix a couple of minor issues that were reported. I should have this up in the next week or so. You would be more than welcome to release a rotated version of that table.... :dblthumb: I will let you know when I am ready to update. Probably by early next week.

Thanks,

Clay

This table has been updated to version 1.1  :D

  • Ver 1.10
  • Fixed flippers working after game.
  • Fixed half ball disappearing in the top hole.
  • Top flipper can no longer cradle the ball.
  • Smoothed transition from in lane to flipper. It was a little rough...lol
  • Minor physics tweaks.
  • Added labels to drop targets.
  • Animated rollovers and added sound effect.
  • Reworked the bumper caps.
  • Added the 6 color choice GI lighting code from my F-14 mod. I only recommend the Blue, White, and yellow, but the purple, red and green are included as well. Who am I to judge? Select color choice at the top of the script.
  • Fixed minor top hole issue. If anyone thinks the hole is kicking to fast. Bring up the Dip Switch menu with F6, save and restart. This worked for me.
  • Updated some metal textures and added a couple of drop walls for when GI comes on.
  • Added code to start GI at the beginning of the table.
  • The credit light now works.
  • Removed drawing of acorn nuts. These are now done with VP objects.
  • Other fixes and tweaks.
  • A desktop conversion of this table with the 1.1 updates is now available as well.
  •

Just noticed that DX9 Test 10 is out. There is an issue with the apron in Test 10 only. I am sure it is my fault. But it seems to work fine in Test 9a and prior. To fix for Test 10, change the image for Wall10 to KOSPlastics and save the table. There are 2 instruction cards on that image..but it works. I will fix the apron when the DX9 build is closer to official.

I just tried the link and the download worked. Try again. I don't know how quickly VP staff got it approved. Also, these files aren't showing up under the files button on My Profile. Things seem to be running a little weird or slow today.

The table is now available. Was waiting on approval. Please take note of the post above if using DX9 Test 10.
