File Name: Batman DE FS Alpha BMPR MOD
File Submitter: teppotee
File Submitted: 24 Jan 2013
File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)
Author(s): Lord Hiryu
Teppotee
Manufacturer: Data East
Year: 1991
Permission to MOD?: Unspecified

This MOD is an update to Lord Hiryu's Batman FS table and released with author's permission.

This version has been in my cab for quite a while but after playing it again I decided that it might be worth sharing too!

My changes:
- Redrawn GI and lights
- Darker playfield (unfortunately the same lowres image... no hd playfield available)
- B2B and BMPR ball routines
- Alpha ramps
- Cleaned some plastics
- Flasher Halo effetcs
- Slingshot flasher effects
- Physics tweaked
- Layback settings

Thanks to jimmyfingers for the flasher halo graphics and the original BMPR scripting.

Although the table graphics are not quite up to the recent VP standards I think it plays real nice now :)

Regards,
-Teppo-

Thanks for sharing, I love how much better tables play with BMPR added to it, seems much more realistic with more bounce.

This version is just great! :)

Only one thing: Some areas are a little bit shifted when lit. It seems that some illuminated bitmaps are slightly displaced.

Thanks for sharing your mod teppotee!!!

this table looks really good :)  May I ask how you added the GI effects around the slingshots?

I think the sling flashers are a bit too strong (white) for my liking but this is personal taste. The general lighting level to bring out the best in the effects seems spot on :good:

Cheers! :drinks:

I love the BMPR mod! Would love to see this on The Shadow, thinking of how awesome the mini play-field and Shadow loop combos could be with this mod.

Great Table MOD!! Thanks!

ps. Indeed it's like Kim Basinger (to the left of the right slingshot) is a little 'dancing' .. it's not that I mind though .. when I'm playing the game I can't stand still either! ;)

Thanks for the comments. I will check the "dancing" image issue when I have time (not during this weekend), I didn't notice it so maybe it's not that big effect :)

About the slingshot flashers. Yeah... I know they are quite bright and I've added those to all my recent MODs. Personally I think they add a bit more of that "light show" feeling you get with a real table. But if they become too distractive for some I could add a option in the beginning of the script to turn them on/off.

Thanks for sharing this nice table with us. One of my favorites. In general, i like most of the Data East tables. I was wondering, will there be a 4:3 version for notebook users (like myself) coming out from you or another author ? Or is it very difficult to convert the FS version to a 4:3 version ? I am not aware of making tables, so i was just wondering if this is possible.

Greetings from a freezy Holland.

Unfortunately this table uses reels so it's not angle independent. Making it much harder to convert to 4:3.

If anybody wants to give 4:3 conversion a shot -> they have my permission to release the desktop version.

There are some parts, mainly on the lower side of the screen, which are a little bit shifted when lit. Batman/Basinger has the most displaced flashing but there are also some black line appearing right between the flippers and on the outer lanes.

I have some performance problems with your table when UVP is activated - the ball is slightly stuttering. Weird as I have a i5 2500k 3,3 GHz and a GTX 660...

I really hope you can fix this small issues because your version of the table is much better than the original recreation!

I'm confused because the few reels you added were flashers that normally wouldn't need converted to reels.  Why did you do this instead of just sticking with walls or ramps?  Now, as you said the table can't be adjusted.  I adjusted it for personal use just so I could give it a quick spin, cuz I'm only on desktop, but of course it is a little more involved when dealing with reels.  The slingshot flashers are interesting I guess, but I'm pretty sure they aren't something that exist on this table in real life.

Maybe you released the mod too quickly?  It seems a bit unfinished.  For example, you have large areas of blue on the plastics that are supposed to be see though like on the original table.  I would recommend having table testers to go over the table before you release it.

Table doesn't feel very optimized, ball stutters & I have a GTX 680 & a 4.3ghz cpu.  I like all the flasher effects, but IMHO smoothness & performance is much more important & should come first.  Physics & other things could be tuned better?  There are a number of alpha plastics you forgot to upgrade & some textures do look off.  All fixable stuff though.

Sorry to be critical but I think it would be rude of me to not say something that could help you out.  But you can certainly ignore me if you like because with VP there technically is no right or wrong.

I also see some slight ball stutter even without UVP, but my rig only has a Phenom II 3.2 GHz and a GTX 550Ti. But if even much stronger hardware shows stutter, then perhaps there's another reason for this.

This is the only table out of ~160 for me that has ball stutter without UVP .

Didn't pay too much attention to performance because I simply had zero stutter on my computers (laptop and CAB) so this seems to be one of those weird VP issues again where something works for someone but someone else with equal setup is having problems. Go figure... in a PM jimmy had some performance suggestions so maybe this can be optimized more.

For the record... I didn't add any reels. They were there and I just added the alpha flasher effects on top.

Like I said... this has been in my cab for quite a while now so I really didn't do anything special for the release. So it may be missing some alpha plastics etc. and it may not be as finalized as it could be. I just thought that it's still worth sharing if somebody else might enjoy it as well even in it's current state. I just didn't have time to work on it anymore. The other option (the easier one) would have been just to leave it in my cab :)

If somebody knows how to make this better please do so and let's upload a better version of the table!

Then please update at least the displaced graphics when illuminated. Looks really weird!

Just uploaded version 1.1 which should fix the "dancing images". I have no idea how I could have missed so obvious and ugly bug...

Maybe I really need to use testers next time before releasing anything...

Thanks for the update!

If you want to make it "perfect": the left outline is also shifted a little bit between "PF BATMAN OFF" and "PF BATMAN GI2new". :)
