Hello my friends, I was away from pinball communities for some time but today something very important happened and I thought I had to share it with all the other pinball emulation fans here.

Adrian Barritt, the mastermind behind Cunning Developments and Silverball Studios, has contacted me (as a reply in an older conversation we had) to inform me that something new is going to be announced about Pro Pinball, soon. He also pointed me at the new Pro Pinball page in Facebook, in where we can all learn about the announcement!

We all know that Pro Pinball series was the most realistic pc pinball emulation that ever existed, even in the era of modern of 3d graphics (where pinball has been forgotten). before almost a year, there was a hope to see a new high end emulator by FarSight, that could also use licensed roms from classic tables, but, unfortunately...they only made versions for every other major platform (including OSx) and we still wait for a PC version... I have tried their most popular versions in Android and iOS tablets and unfortunately they were not even close to the experience someone can have with Visual Pinball or even those 90s dinosaur titles from the Pro Pinball series on a PC.

I hope for a new, original and mind blowing Pro Pinball table/series and that might happen very soon!!!

Hey Welcome back Mr Pac! Some one just posted that over here the other day but good to bring it up again. I remember when you emailed them at the beginning of the year it a few others (and myself) to fire off emails to them as well. With the recent release of TPA and the new Dream Pinball HD release coming soon as well its looking good for Video Pinball. With more people get into Pinball we might even get some new members here.

For Pro Pinball, I really hope is they manage to retain the same physics. I didn't like the cartoony feel of the Frogger Pinball that Silverball Studios did but then again that was targeted at a different audience. Hopefully the Pro-pinball code can be moved over to a 3D engine. Will be interesting to see what they announce.....

They said to expect an announcement within 2 weeks, so pretty soon. Silverball did Frogger? Well that might be why I was surprised by how good it was! No, it isn't a simulation like Pro Pinball, but I don't think it is supposed to be. It is more fantasy pinball just made to be fun. but for a cartoony pin, I think the physics are very good. & the game itself is very well done with the different levels & designs.

I'm wondering the same thing, which is that if they can maintain those amazing physics despite possibly porting over to a 3D engine. That whole physics engine likely needs re-done. & I know that accurate pinball physics can be awfully tough to achieve with these 3D engines. I just wonder if all the same small physics details that most (or all) other sims are missing, if they can find a way to do those.

I'd say the good news is that right on their FB page they are touting their history with physics & accurate simulations. Physics still sound like their selling point. So if this upcoming project didn't have roughly as good of physics as the original PP tables, then maybe they wouldn't be "bragging" as much?

Yes! The whole point is their physics-graphics combination...not because it is an entirely perfect model, but because it's the most realistic one.

I guess that I am the only one who prefers their old approach (without real time 3D graphics). I liked the results much better than some modern 3d pinball games...they also were less demanding in hardware....a modern 3D table can be a compromise between graphics and performance for the most common graphics chips in the market compared to the "static" high resolution images of the original Pro Pinball series.

Id be happy if they just made more tables with the old engine.

Better yet allowed for full screen cabinet view.

Even beter yet, if they would put out an editor for "originals" wink.gif

The 3D engine isn't important for me either, but I expect it might be help sell to the masses who like a zooming camera, etc. Cabinet mode is a must and they indicated in the past that they will consider this. A nice enhancement would be better lighting, but not critical. I have Timeshock loaded in my Mame bartop which has side flipper buttons and it still stands up to this day against any Sim that has been produced since. Only 2 weeks to wait smile.gif

Hi Guys!

Thanks for the nice comments about Pro Pinball, it's really great reading them after all this time. I'm sorry I can't say much until we make the official announcement (hopefully the week after next), but I can assure you that we are aware of the desires of the VP community and have been listening...

Ade.

omg *shiver*

Yeah, I looked up my old Pro Pinball installation files.
Still had them and installed once again.
Those tables are pure candy. Especially for that era !

I'm really curious what they are gonna throw at us biggrin.gif

I know what is coming! Well, minus some details, but I do know. I think any diehard PP fans could probably figure this out as well. There was something I saw that immediately clicked everything into place. I probably shouldn't share it though. Unless they wanted somebody to figure this out & share it, IDK.

I am really tired Rob, and my brain won't be doing any clicking tonight! What's your theory? Here is mine...... smile.gif

I am thinking maybe they might initially release the original tables TS, FJ and BRUSA with just an update to HD resolution (they were close already), and portrait mode for cab players - prob single screen. I reckon there is no new Engine and this kind of release will test the water to see if there is an appetite for new tables.

All the PP tables play great for me on Win7 x64. What issues are you guys having? I'm running all windows versions as well. There are DOS versions of Web & TS floating around but they don't look or play as well. Also what is this about HD resolution?
I play my PP tables at 1600x1200. I think it is safe to say that qualifies as HD. Unless you are just talking about WS support.

Hopefully though, the above things will be a thing of the past anyhow. My theory, well I'm basically 100% certain that yes, the speculation may be correct... remakes!
Like I said, I don't know any details or what might be planned beyond this. Nor do I know if this will only be PC or multi-platform.
How did I come to this conclusion?
Go to the PP facebook page. Fans of the tables will likely notice something on The Web that will bring people to the same conclusion as I came to. As for what that is, I'll leave that much a mystery, but go see & you'll figure it out I think.
