I've heard these terms thrown around quite a bit but I'm not exactly sure what these acronyms stand for and what they are and what the differences between them are? Can anyone take a few mins and explain that to me? And is there a place to go on the forums to decipher some of the acronyms that are thrown around? Thank you very much!

Basically with uvp, a uvpserver program is called to flash lights and stuff on a back glass. You have to manually download a separate uvp file and
Then modify 1 line in the table script, telling it to communicate with the uvp server.

B2s is very similar except it support scoring reels and produces less or no stutter on my cabinet. Just make sure you hav the naming correct
With the .vpt and _b2s exe.

Hope this helps. I only use b2s now.

uvp can also do scoring displays in old tables

b2s however can run real animated backglasses as well as have other stuff in the backglass animate. check out the scared stiff and spirit b2s tables for an example.

B2S backglass mods are fantastic. I used to mod quite alot of
UVP's a few years back and was totally impressed recently with
the new B2S backglass creations. Are there any good tutorials
on making B2S? It looks quite a bit more complex than UVP.

I would love to see a FS Stargate with a correct B2S recreation clapping.gif

Any one with some basic VB (Visual Basic) skills can make a B2S backglass.
As long as the B2S data protocoll is followed you can do whatever you like in the backglass program.

This should get you started, B2S tutorial

One of the advantages of UVP is that is controlled by the game ROM, so the recreation of the lights, flashers and LED-digits could be done very close to the original machine.

Is B2S also controlled by ROM in that way?

Thanks!

Not in the same way as the UVP is, but it can be (and normally is) programmed into the script to send light messages to the back glass based based on ROM cues.
I am, therefore I run.

If it's a B2S backglass for an SS table then it is controlled by the rom (vpinmame).

Thant sounds interesting...

Have you any documentation / example of how to make a backglass for a SS machine?

Yeah, if you scroll up to post #6 by Rosve, you will see the tutorial link he posted.

If you download the B2S templates you will find both EM and SS VB-templates and a document that describes the B2S commands. A link to it is included in the tutorial above.

An advantage from uvp is that it can be used in 2 screen cabinets. The backglass rotates if set up is done correctly.
B2S does not have this feature ( yet ). You can rotate the backglass with monitor preferences but then it fills not the entire
screen ( or i have tested it wrongly ). Because the minority of B2S tables i stick to using uvp.

Yes, you have tested it wrongly smile.gif
B2S does not rotate but it moved around and resized as you like. The newer ones also supports 3 screen cabs.

You don't have to choose uvp or b2s, they can both be used on the same system.

Yes indeed .. both technologies can be used next to each other adding a lot of realism to Virtual Pinball ..

Cheers,

A bit of set up fiddling and B2S and UVP live in harmony on a full rotated screen ..... couple of HP settings tweaks and screen res settings, and your done.

I was going to ask about the tapes too. Looks like some Beta in there?

I actually had a huge stockpile of stuff i recently unloaded, and have found myself needing some things, so good to hang onto them just in case.
