I'm working on a table with LED segments and want to copy 240 LED lights from one of my tables.
When I do this, the lights copied get a new name, usually the old name with a 1 at the end.

I searched and found that vp 909 can copy preserving names. 912 definately does not preserve the names.

Is there an option in 912 to copy preserving names, or do we have to wait for a new build to resolve this?
I know the table I am copying TO does not have any of the lamp names so there is no reason this shouldn't work if preserve names is in 912.

Its a very handy feature to have. Maybe I am missing something....

Thanks,
LTA

I had to rename every single one on a recent conversion I did. Sucked... sad.gif

Preserving names should be not just an option, but a requirement.. wink.gif
I am, therefore I run.

You could have used an old version of VP9 to copy your objects and keep the same names, I think 9.07 does it.

VP need devs if you know someone.... Cupid and Manofwar, both seem to be missing in action.

Yes, that is what Dan thought as well, but we both tried it and couldn't get it to work,so i ended up renaming the bunch.....

I think if you have an older version table with the display working, and move forward to 912, it will retain the naming, but going from vp912 back to 9.09and then back didn't work for us unfortunately....

I actually asked my wife to do it for me since she is a fast typer smile.gif Lazy aren't i? smile.gif

Hmm, I am going to load my VP 912 table in VP909 and save it.
Then I am going to load it from VP909 and copy the 240 LEDS from the table to the other table and cross my fingers it will preserve the lamp names smile.gif

If this works a round of beers for all drinks.gif

ok, so I just tried the VP 909 experiment witha VP 912 table.

It works if you copy the table objects to a brand new table. It doesn't preserve filenames if you created the table in a version > 909.

I just tried this in the latest development build and it appears to work correctly! I saw a previous thread regarding it's implementation in development which made me test it out. I got the build from helping a developer test a feature so am not sure how best for you to get a copy nor feel confident that I can appropriately distribute it here / provide a link. However, I believe there are channels / topics for how to acquire the latest build.

But the main thing is that it appears to work properly for the preserving names in this latest dev version and that it can be acquired.

If I remember right I read that it will be fixed in the next release. But, I also remember that they siad when they came out with 9.12 they said any table opened with 9.12 can't be opened up with any other version afterward. If I remember right...

Actually, that isn't quite correct. If your table you created in VP9.1.2 doesn't have any Alpha ramps in it, and the images are all BMP/JPG, then it can be opened in previous versions of VP just fine. I tested this extensively lately to be sure. Originally I didn't know, so no need to risk it, right? smile.gif

Here the link to "vp912" with last version of "copy and paste" that mantain names beetween table.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/m3f2px
I have try it really quick, the best solution is to use this release (278) only for copy and paste.

Thanks Bmiki75.
Copy and paste is OK.
I like the new primitive objects.See the picture below.
The problem is the performance, these primitive objects require much CPU

Is this the first entry into modeled objects for VP? What is the proposal for this new function and can we use it?
I'd love to see VP development continue. otvclap.gif
