PINemHI Leaderboard is a program that catches the 1st player score(s) and can send that score to an online database.
Also the special scores such as Martian Champion on Attack from Mars and others of course.

Here are the downloadlinks:

http://www.vpforums....s&showfile=7260

http://www.vpforums....s&showfile=7262 (This is the FS version)

To take part you can create your user and get the code from the website.......
Without a user and code your scores aren't gonna be accepted by the database.

http://www.pinemhi.com/hiscores.php

(Here you can also see the hiscores being made for a lot of tables ofcourse)

There are also challenges that you can try and a 5 minute-mode where you only play a table for 5 minutes

Should work for XP , VISTA (with UAC turned off) and Windows 7 (with UAC turned off)

These are the instructions that come with the program:

PINemHi Leaderboard is a frontend that also can enter hiscores online into a database for Visual Pinball Games that use vpinmame.....
This is what you should know before you start......

VERY IMPORTANT          VERY IMPORTANT          VERY IMPORTANT          VERY IMPORTANT          VERY IMPORTANT
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vista and Windows7 users might want to turn off UAC before starting a game or the program won't work as it should.
*You might want to check out if your system has the file lastaccess timestamp set on enabled (windows 7 and vista have it standard set to off).
http://www.windowsre...amp-in-windows/

If the file lastaccess timestamp is not set on enabled you can and probably will experience that you get a "no game played" message or that your score is not submitted to the online database !!!

Unzip the complete PINemHi_Leaderboard folder to a folder on your computer

Before starting a game :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Open the pinemhi_leaderboard.ini file

Under [path]
Fill in your vpinball version 9 executable with full path after VP9=
and of course if you want to play with vpinball version 8 as well fill your executable in behind the VP8=
Fill in the full path to the nvram after nvram=
Fill in the full path to your tables after tables=
Fill in your vpinball version 9 alternative executable with full path after VP9alt=

Here is an example of how it should look like:
VP9=x:\vpinball\vpinball912.exe
VP8=x:\vpinball\vpinball_8.1.exe
nvram=x:\vpinball\nvram\
tables=x:\vpinball\tables\
VP9alt=x:\vpinball\vpinball914.exe

Note that the directories for nvram and tables end with backslashes !
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under [user]

name=
Fill in the name you got , or if you just want to use the frontend without online score submitting you can leave this blank
code=
Fill in the code you got , or if you just want to use the frontend without online score submitting you can leave this blank

play=
Fill in which type of games you play , there are 3 options VP9 , FS or VP8
You can always change the values to switch between the type of plays

mode=
This is something that doesn't need changing, this one is know which mode you were in the last time
I'll explain the modes later
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under [Keys]

The following keys can be changed to your liking

exit=
start=

rightflipper=Rshift
leftflipper=Lshift

view_images=
This is the key to pop up the backglass images and flyer images.

switchmode=
This is the key to let you switch modes.

local_hiscore=
This is the key that during a game can bring up the local hiscores
hiscore_rotation=
This is not a key but a way to rotate the local_hiscore , for FS set the value to 270 for normal play set it to 0

rules=
This key brings up the rules of PINemHi Leaderboard in case you want to read it, the rules only apply for the hiscore submit mode and 5 minute-mode.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under [Misc]

tweet=
Every time you set a hiscore it will be tweeted or if you go up a level in the challenges
1 is on and 0 is off

missing_images_logs=
This turns on logging to the pinemhi leaderboard directory in case you miss an image of the wheels, backglasses and flyers
missing ..... image(s).txt are the name of the files

custom_xml=
This will grab games from the custom.xml instead of games.xml , you can make your own list of games
The online hiscore submitting feature is disabled when using this.
1 is on and 0 is off

Starting a game:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start a game by doubleclicking start PINemHi_Leaderboard
You will get a selection of games that can be played (more will be available in the future).
Using the Left and Right shift will go through all the games.
Pressing Enter wil start the game , depending on what you put under play in the ini-file the frontend will start a table (VP8 , VP9 or FS)
These tables have the original names (as downloaded from vpforums), this is to ensure there is no pollution in the database of the same table but with different names.
If you don't have the table you can download it from vpforums (please don't rename the tables you already got as it could be another version)
If you get an error "table not found" then you can look up the exact name in missing table(s).txt in the pinemhi leaderboard directory.
This way you'll know which table to download.

When Visual Pinball has started.
Enter credits (if necessary) and start a game (only the 1 player score will be used in hiscore online submit mode or 5 miunte-mode so no point in starting with more players)

After the game has ended and you want to submit the score press Escape or you can also use the e button.
The score doesn't have to be a grandchampion score or highscore. The score that player 1 made will be used.
There is also no rush in pressing Escape or e because the score can be extracted long after the game has ended. Only when you start a new game (by pressing 1) the score cannot be retrieved anymore. If you think your score wasn't high enough you can just start a new game until you have one that is.

After pressing Escape or the e button a window will appear a little while.
This window will contain your score.
It will ask if you want to submit this into the pinemhi database...
Use the Enter key on the YES button to do so or NO to of course not do it.
Using the Left and Right shift to move the pinball to Yes or No . Enter when you've made your choice...
After that you will be taken back to the selection menu.

Do not use the mousebuttons to click on something, the graphics will get a bit nasty if you do.....so only use keys !

Also when you play a game for the very first time (you'll get the "Are you legally entitled to play YES or NO" rom message). you'll get a game not played message. So my advice is to just start the first game and then exit without playing , the next time you start the game it will work like it should !

!!! If you wanna go for SPECIAL SCORES the use of a new, clean nvram is advised !!!
This because you have to get a higher special score than the one in the nvram
For instance :
You have an nrvam of Attack from Mars with a MARTIANS DESTROYED of 32
In order to get a new score of MARTIANS DESTROYED to be submitted you have to score higher than 32
If you use a new, clean nvram it's only 20 because that's the default hiscore for it.
This isn't needed for normal scores as they can be extracted out of the nvram no matter what score it is.

Some keys explained (some can be mapped to other keys in the pinemhi_leaderboard.ini file)

h:
While playing a game you can press h to let you see the local hiscores.
To return to the game just press h again or Esc.
To use this feature you must have Flashplayer 10 or higher installed on your system.
This can only be done ingame

Esc:
This key exits , from the game , the menu etc

Lshift and Rshift:
With these keyes you can go through the choices.....
Selecting a game
Selecting an answer
Or when in viewing backglass / flyer images, these keys will let you switch between them

Enter:
Lets you start a game or answer a question

v:
view the rules , the rules only apply to the hiscore online submit mode and 5 minute-mode

d:
View the backglass image or flyer image from a game

m:
Switch between the 3 different modes:
Normal mode
Hiscore Online Submit Mode    -> Lets you send the hiscore to the online database
5 Minute-mode                        -> Lets you send the hiscore to the online database but only lets you play for 5 minutes.
Both the last modes give a line in the frontend to know that they are set to on.
If 5 minute-mode is selected the hiscore online submit mode is also always on.

There are some issues with alt-tab to another window. It gets messed up a bit so I decided to let Alt-tab exit pinemhi leaderboard for the moment.
Also when another vpinball.exe is running and the starting this program there could be some issues on closing vpinball after a game.
Best thing to do is not start anything beside this program and just run it dedicated....After you exit it, the world is yours again ;-)

The games.xml should never be changed as it holds all the right information to make online hiscore submitting work.
If you want to use this as a frontend for all your games you can use the custom.xml and turn that on in the pinemhi_leaderboard.ini file
When you want to set some hiscores all you have to do is set the custom_xml value to 0 again in the ini file and it loads the supported games again.

When submitting the score the firewall could ask for permission !
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The (hi)scores can be found at www.pinemhi.com/hiscores.php

You can make a selection of what you want to see on the webpage.
This could be all of your own scores per game (Top10 , 25 or 100)
Or a Top10 , 25 or 100 with all participants per game or all participants with only one score per game
You can also see special scores such as Martian Champion on Attack from Mars (xx Martians destroyed) and lots more by selecting a game....

***Only use the default setting from the roms ,use the standard 3 balls per game , don't use buyin's and all that kind of stuff !***
***Earned extra balls in the games , mark the word earned are of course allowed***
***Cheating is of course always possible but this is just a friendly competition so please fight the urge if you should have it***

If you would like a name and code to send your scores to the database , it's best that you drop a line in the pinemhi leaderboard thread on vpforums.org
I'll be happy to do so.......

sounds cool, would be nice to see something that can imbed into the core.vbs and send any table scores to an online site you so have a running list of people's high scores on any game and not have to deviate from running HP etc as normal.
PM me for any CNC needs.

I think it would be possible to implement something like this within fplaunch (or hyperfplaunch) ...then it could work within HP-setting...most cabs have no connection to internet so it wouldn't be used much with cabs I guess.
But the showstopper is the name from the tables (that should be the same with everyone).
The database would clog up with all different names.....

Adding hundreds of tables is no problem.......
Just want this to be small scale for now.. (5 tables)

if its passes the rom name only then you should be fine. the website could decode the rom name into game name.

you are correct about the internet connectivity from cabs, however i think this will change shortly.

btw send me the details so i can get it installed. thanks

But if someone would play a vp8 and another a vp9 version or a type of mod of the same game they will be in the same hiscore-list but the gameplay could/would be completely different.
You are right about getting the gamenames that way but it would not be a good comparison I'm afraid....

I remember you were working on this before, and I tested your initial version.

This is the true next step in VP! Thanks for working on this!

I think with anything like this you are always going to have similar issues unless you can lock the game down so no changes can be made, even if we were all using the same vp9 version, currently nothing stops anyone from changing their game physics or even table layout to allow for easier game play or high score.

perhaps the next logical step in this evolution is the portal that the tournament data gets fed to controls/feeds the game requirements to VP so everyone is on the same playfield. that said even that's hackable in someways.

We need to walk before we run and this is the first steps in that direction which is great.

Hi Rawd,

The initial version you are talking about is still in existence and is not exactly the same.
So basically these are 2 separate programs for different things..
This (new) one is only used for getting (hi)scores into an online database and you can display a list on the website comparing your score with others

The other one is for displaying all kinds of hiscores in the game.. (using hyperfplaunch it will hopefully be integrated in hyperpin soon so you can see the hiscores of a game by a press of the pause-button)

True........

I hope to attract only the true sportmanlike type players (maybe against better judgement) dblthumb.gif
But with the option you described earlier the people playing wouldn't neccesarely cheat but just play a different game as to the setup now they would have the intent and take actions to cheat.....(still hoping that's not the case of course)

windows 7 I haven't got so I can't test this one but it's probably the same issue as with vista UAC (user account control) activated.
I think that if you were to disable it it should work.

Just a thought - but you could watch to see which Visual Pinball executable is used, then perform a CRC check on the executable, the table file, the ROM file (if you wanted to be totally complete), and the parts of the nvram file that isn't score related, and send all that with the user's score data. If they've fiddled with any of it, it'll stick out like a sore thumb. It'll also tell you exactly what version of everything is being used (you'll need to build up a database of CRCs for the various versions, though, which is kind of a pain).

The only issue I can see with this is if someone edits a table for UVP or something, it's CRC will no longer match for the table file.

Great work, though. I was thinking about something like this, then I saw your original program and figured you were on the road to getting it done - and here you are. I'm super impressed!

I would venture to say no one has done as much research on 'tournament security' than I have. The main reason being that even with all the measures you've mentioned above, it's still not enough. One could cheat within minutes on any table whether it's locked, CRC checked, etc, etc.

I have researched ways of tourney handling, and it's going to be quite costly to create a truly secure environment.

Maybe one day, it'll happen. Until then, just have 'fun' tourneys, and don't worry yourselves too much about cheats.

Not that it matters, because we're taking about just for fun here, but if we were looking to seriously do tournaments and avoid cheaters, there are way to get the job done effectively enough that almost no one would be able to cheat without a significant skill set.

Some of the ways I can think of to cheat would be:

You could add invisible walls and other helpers before running the table. You wouldn't be able to save the table, or the CRC check would detect the changes, so you'd need to make the changes every time you wanted to cheat. If the program is launching VP and the table, then you're pretty safe from people making modifications before the table is loaded, though, so that can be handled - you'd need the program to launch VP and the table directly, however - not via a batch file that can be easily edited. The program would need to watch for the table exiting, too - but it'd need to do that anyway to grab the nvram file right away (mentioned below).

Subbing in a different ROM with the same filename wouldn't fly with the CRC checks, so that's a non-issue (you'd want to check the registry to see where VPinMAME is looking for ROMs, just to avoid any sneaky stuff).

You could use something like Fiddler to construct your own HTML submission by hand with whatever score you wanted in there, which you could do after sniffing a real submission by the program and using it as a template for your own submission. The quickest way around that is simply to encrypt the data being sent. Then if they want to hack it, they'll need to disassemble the program, figure out the built-in encryption key and algorithm, construct their message and encrypt it using the same stuff and send it - and that would be a brutal task, even for an experienced programmer. With that in place, manipulating the data stream to the server is pretty much a no go.

The real vulnerability is the nvram file itself, since that's where the score is stored when the table exits. You have a couple of options there - but probably the best one is to watch for the table to close, and when it does, grab the nvram file right away, before it can be swapped. I'd be inclined to CRC check this file again, just to be double certain. Again, you'd want to check the registry to make sure you are aware of where VPinMAME is configured to save the files, or you run the risk of someone moving things to a non-standard directory and putting hacked files in the normal spot.

Those things would make cheating pretty tricky, short of recompiling VPinMAME with your own modifications to slip a fake score in during the save of the nvram file - but a CRC of VPinMAME's DLL would solve that. The same goes for modified Visual Pinball executables.

The last thing I can think of is writing an actual cheat program that runs in the background and fiddles with VPinMAME while it's running, like has been done for just about every commercial game on a PC ever made (often called "trainers," which I use often when playing a game because I'm impatient and don't want to do a level 20,000 times to get through it. LOL). Detecting these can be done, but it's probably one of the trickiest things to deal with.

I mean, really, if you're dedicated and have the skill set, you could hack a real tournament machine, too. The only way to be 100% sure in either a real world or virtual game is to watch the guy play it, to make sure he's not up to no good. You just do what you can to make it really, really hard to be sneaky *grin*.

Back on topic: I'm for Scared Stiff. I'm awesome at that table, I tell you! AWESOME! *laughs*.
