Flying Turns VP9 1.0 16:9 WS

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VP 9.x Recreations

Author(s): Rascal

Description:
1964 Midway Flying Turns
This table is based on a 1964 Midway Flying Turns.

Instead of playing for points, the cars in the backbox race around for laps. You pick up car lengths by hitting slingshots, rollovers, and kickers. You aim the ball launcher with the black knob to shot for lit kickers or rollovers.

I added hand animations and some audio clips to this table. If you want to turn them off you can in the script. On line 6 in the script editor you will find the following line of code.

handsenabled = true

Just change "true" to "false"

Also if you are running VP with Hardware Rendering off, you will more than likely want to delete the alpha glass reflections. You can do this by deleting Ramp1 and Ramp2.

Special thanks go out to the following people:

Sabbat (Freddie the Monk) - Freddie help me in so many ways. He got me in touch with Osprey101 who owns a rare Midway Flying Turns. He gave me a ton of support and spot on advice about settings and game play tweaks. He found a bunch of bugs for me to fix before release with his extreme beta testing. Without him, the table would not be half of what it is.

Osprey101 (Shane) - for giving me a ton of details and images on this table. He was critical to getting the game play right. He also beta tested the table and gave me great feedback. A pinhead all the way! Great guy!

Hassanchop - for an awesome background for the table and for sending me animation frames for the record player. Super nice work! Great artist!

wildman - for advice, settings, and beta testing. Thanks dude.

Rawd - for letting me steal his flipper buzz sounds.

Bob, KEG, oooPLAYER1ooo, and a bunch of other guys in the chat room for helping and beta testing. Thanks guys.

Thank you so much Rascal!!! I can't wait to try out the WS version, the 4:3 has served its purpose well until now smile.gif

Man, the more I play this, the more impressed I am with it! Love the music choices, and the "comments" are MUCH nicer than what I say while playing the real machine. Want a recording of my "barroom-cussing" for Player 2? lol
Seriously, this is a version that would visually please even the most hardcore FP lover. And I don't think it would be possible for it to play any closer to the real table. You really nailed it!
It can be a frustrating machine with slow, "floaty" play, followed by: BANG BANG DRAIN. Super fun though and TONS of fun with 2 players since the Bonus Laps carry from player to player.
I said it before and I will say it again, your work is amazing. I am honored to have been able to help with this.
Thanks for including me in your credits, and thanks for the help and teaching you have done for me.
With authors like you, VP will exceed everyone's expectations in the blink of an eye.

Thanks for all the effort you've put into this Rascal. It's a great blast into the past on all fronts. Just glad we have an owner testifying that it is supposed to be this frustrating to play....I'd be wondering. Another rare classic from you that delivers the flavor of the era perfectly.

Thanks for the kind words everybody. Yeah this table can be frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, you can normally at least win one replay at 14 laps. My high score to date is 26 laps. Once you get used to the fact that you are not going to have a long playing ball on this table no mater what you do, you start studying on what can be hit in that short time to get the most car lengths, and that's the key. Any time you see and hear the fist slam, that means that you had a ball that played under 15 seconds. It's a lot more fun with 2 players as Osprey pointed out.

I think it will be awhile before "The Monk" rolls this one over and asks me for a Post-It note 100 counter. tongue3.gif

For what it is worth, my high score on the real machine is only 24. That is the highest score in the house here. Guess I will need to play it more to keep the Monk humble....

You tilted the game when you had an Extra Ball left over. This is a known bug I already knew about. Just launch the ball like normal and let it drain and the game will fix itself when the hands go back to the Flipper buttons.

SHEWT! I thought it was the tutor standing a bit too close behind the tutee---if I'd known a prize was involved, I might not have 'roffled' so hard.
