Thanks for the heads up Sabbat - the file got corrupted. If Noah doesn't have a backup I can rezip it again. As for sound, it hasn't ever worked for this game in VPM, dunno when it will be fixed.

@ destruk. Isn't that odd considering that other tables using the same MPU work just fine? Does that mean its a bad rom dump?
Would love to see this game working, & any other Zaccaria that don't have proper sound yet. Every year I get to play & take pics of all the best Zaccaria's, Clown is one I'd love to do a new version for someday if the sound works. Also I noticed the table is choppy.
Is there anything people can do to help with this? Track down an owner for a new dump? Or is it just a pinmame problem?
If this game is a lost cause, what if we got a sound sample set, could that work with pinmame? Same with any other Zaccaria with sound issues.

@ Sabbat. While you just found this table, I would highly recommend that until this table works in VPM that you play the VP only version. I would guess that IRpinball has it, if not then I can get it to you. That one plays smooth & has Zaccaria sounds. Not sure how close those sounds are to the real game, but it is sure better than nothing & a much better play than the VPM version right now.
& I'm sure whatever other Zaccaria games without proper sound have also been done up for VP by maybe Eala or LTA, so look for those.

The game is as smooth as can be on my machines.
As for sound, Zaccaria Clown is the ONLY game we have that uses the "ZAC2XS" type.
If you look a bit closer at zac.c you see these are the options -
ZAC2A = Soundboard 1370
ZAC2X = Soundboard 13136
ZAC2XS = Soundboard 11178
ZAC2XS2 = Soundboard 11178 + 13181
ZAC2XS2A = Soundboard 11178 + 11181
ZAC2XS3 = Soundboard 11183

A cursory glance at zacsnd.h shows there are 10 configurations there, so it's really not surprising that a few of those might not be fully working yet for us. Just because it's generation 2 doesn't mean they all use identical sound boards - that's the point I'm trying to make.

I think if the roms were incorrect, David Gersic would have put corrected reads on his site.

Zaccaria Generation 2 games used many sound cards. However most have been emulated well except the 1b11178/1and 1b11178/3 boards. For some reason the 1b11178/2 (used in Mexico 86) is pretty close to emulated. Additionally 2 models had daughterboards - Spooky and Zankor. Thats where the 1b11181 comes in.

I worked a bit with Dave Gersic on these boards and had several games that use them.

Here are the models that need additional sound emulation:

Clown, Blackbelt, Spooky, Zankor, Pool Champion

Spooky and Zankor have great music! The other 3 have limited music and speech in the real games.

Damn, those are 5 pretty cool games. Hopefully pinmame eventually can get those back to life.
But how about the samples idea? Like how we used to need for some of the old Stern games, which is now no longer an issue. Just throwing it out there, though I don't know how easy or difficult this is to implement.
Doing this might be easiest on the 3 games listed above that LTA says have limited music & speech to begin with, so we aren't dealing with hundreds of samples here.

Btw, Clown does indeed run weird for me. I tried it in VP6, 7, 8, & 9. I get high fps numbers, yet the ball still jitters a bit. Just weird cuz it certainly doesn't seem to be from a lack of fps. & I have a high powered rig too. Just something going on there.
I even cleared my nvram & cfg files, but no luck. I even tried a bunch of different sound sample settings (16000, 22500, 32000) with no luck. I'm curious if anybody else notices this issue.
Another note, I tried the Clown "free play" rom (clownfp), & I change the gamename in script to that, but yet it still says gamename not found when I try to launch. Is "clownfp" not supported? I tried it cuz I was holding out a tiny bit of hope that maybe that rom somehow had a little sound, though I know that is unlikely & illogical.
I did notice that when pressing 5 to add a credit on Clown, it actually adds like 6 credits at a time.
These things make me wonder if more than just sound needs some emulation work.

I really want to maybe get into working on some zaccaria titles, I think people will be pleasantly surprised how well some well done Zac's for VP9 would turn out. & I'm interested in doing that because nobody else is, so it could be a nice niche to get into here. PF images seem to be the main issue, I don't have much even for the more popular Zac's. Maybe somebody does. & I certainly don't need perfection or redraws, OK is well enough for me. Anyhow, pinmame guys ended up fixing the Stern sound problems in the past, & we went from gottlieb sys1 being an pipe dream to a reality, so I'm hoping the same happens for these remaining Zac's.

Anyhow, thanks for the info guys.

Rob, we've done this before with other games that didn't have sound emulation.

You basically add "playsound" calls to the switches, etc wherever you have sound samples to do it.
I tried it with Clown. I got the sound test samples from one of the other zaccaria owners and put a few sounds in the game. It was cool, but it would need more work since I don't know the game that well.
If you recall the first release of Pinball Champ was done with samples before the vpinmame dev team emulated the board.

I am going to attach the sound samples in case anyone wants to play around with it.

PS 20.wav plays when you startup for example in the real game. You can probably figure out the rest from this youtube video:
