Radical! VP91x 1.0.1

Version: 1.0.1
Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas, Grizz, hassanchop

Description:
Based on the table by Bally from 1990
First thanks to Leo for suggesting this table and to Grizz and hassanchop for their redrawings of the playfield and plastics. Even if the complete playfield redraw didn't make it into this table, still some of the parts were redrawed by Grizz and hassanchop.

I have included a new plunger sub with support for the analog plunger. Let's see if it works.

Update 1.0.1 30 April 2011
- build extra high wall around the snake lock (left side of the table) to prevent balls jumping into the plastics and getting stuck.
- rebuild the wall around the center hole.
- build an extra wall at the bottom of the blue ramp.
- made the flipper a little bit stronger, not much.
- fixed the analog plunger subs. Now they should work better. Thanks Hernán for testing the plunger.

Thanks JP and Grizz and Hassenchop! HC, you have proven yourself with mine I only knew it would be a short time before you got snatched up by the community! I love your artwork, you have an originality I haven't seen in a while. No offense to our gurus, you guys rock! Your pins always thrill me, but HC (easier than spelling out his entire name all the time) can take an idea and fly with it! cool pin and this will be the test for my now working 9.1.2! thanks again guys... cool.gif

Thanks JP and the rest of the team for this table.

Unfortunately, I had a ball get stuck when I tried to send the ball up the left ramp from the upper right flipper. Again, I had to press "O" to find out where the ball got stuck.

Ta, your screenshot looks horrible. 1280x800 res ? Your ramps look sick. The ball is at about 80% Full as if it were the moon. smile.gif Sorry, you must have ATI card and Alpha isn't doing much for your system? Anyway, where is the Alpha ramp accuracy slider positioned in VP Options? I'm assuming all the way to the left? I would make those ramps acrylic on your table and see if the ball still gets stuck there.

I have had the ball over there about 20 times so far and no problems yet, so I'm thinking it's on your end.

Bob-

No ATI card on that system. Unfortunately its integrated Intel graphics (I know, it is just as bad) And yes, max resolution on that system is 1280x800. (What can I do though, it is a laptop)

Alpha slider is all the way to the RIGHT on that system. I don't have problems with any other table with the alpha ramps on that system.

Remember I also said that I had to press the "O" key to get the ball to appear. That has something to do with how the screenshot looks as a lot of the effects are turned down when the "O" key is pressed.

Cupid has said that the slider probably only needs to be halfway to work. I guess Acrylic ramps wouldn't matter either then, if the table runs smooth for you.

I can't help you on the ball getting stuck, but maybe I can help you with your resolution problem. Your table is being stretched out of proportion with that resolution, to make it look like a 4x3 table, try using .904 in the xScale box on the backdrop, this should compensate for the table being stretched too far horizontally for you. I just took 80% of JP's xScale (1.13) number to get .904

Try it, you may like it, save it if you do. smile.gif

Well, let me try that and see what happens. Since on that system it supposedly has a wide screen, that could be why it looks like that.

To explain this:

If you have not selected HwDevice Render, the ramp will turn into a quasi acrylic automatically (since alphas would be horribly slow on SW Rendering). That also means the slider has no effect on systems with swDevice Rendering. So you don't habve to turn it down.

And yes, the ramps look like this without HWDeice Rendering, since alpha will be dithered then.

Thanks guys for the table! Makes sense this table get done now for VP9 now that we have the alpha ramps, which this table uses a bunch of.
I had issues with the gameplay, it just didn't feel right to me. I did some personal tweaks that have made a difference in making it play a bit more real in my opinion. & certain shots/combo's that I couldn't achieve before without luck, now I can hit them.

I moved the upper left flipper a tad, which I believe was positioned a little too far left anyhow (either way, it now works better & you can get more torque on it), so I bumped it right a tiny bit. Changed the start & end angles on it. The start angle to match the same angle as the line on that piece of orange art, then using 53 degrees on the flipper arc instead of 50. I also did the 50 to 53 change for all flippers.
Decreased elasticity by 1 point on all 4, 5.5 to 4.5. Ball was too jumpy for my tastes. & I really wish I could do proper "drop catches" in VP especially on tables like this, but VP just can't properly do them. Major bummer because I would constantly use that pinball trick which would help a ton in making ball flow better & likely getting me higher scores.

These are just my preferences, & I've messed around with a few other minor things & may continue going a bit deeper with some other tweaks. Wondering what other people familiar with the table or fast sys11's think about default gameplay. I like to think I'm pretty well versed in how these tables should play, I even own a fast playing sys11 game myself (BK2K). I've played this one in real life but not enough to remember a ton other than how visually loud the table was & the sounds got annoying, but I always thought it could make a great VP table if it played properly, which is hard to do sometimes with VP & fast tables.
There a few other details that I believe are off with the table that maybe I'll bring up later if nobody else does, but for the most part its pretty good for a v1.0, my flipper opinions aside.

Btw, I notice this is the prototype Radical. The production Radical doesn't have the VUK in the upper left, & that center snake shot is just a simple standup target. No VUK. I kinda like this version better, but if you play a Radical in real life you won't see some of these things you see on this table.
Is it even worth releasing another table that is non-prototype? Maybe, for the purists out there. Would it be possible to tick a box in options that adds a standup target in front of the saucer? For example I remember PD making Firepower where in the options you could choose to go with the prototype drop targets to replace the standups.

Oh it's definitely Intel graphics guess who else has them" I'll give ya' three tries and the first two don't count! I did not get the ball stuck but it stutters only thru that ramp mainly because it' sits behind other things. I can only run the newer versions with the slider all the way to the left and even then i get ball stutter. But this table is a full one I think you used fading lights. It runs it is only that ramp that it hangs up in everywhere it plays ok no stuttering or my old ball flashing probs I still get w/ 9.09 I am using 9.07 for sanatorium just cause it's more stable but now that I know a full table such as this one is playable all my future ones can now be built using 9.1.2 a minor miracle for me and also I found out how to save bookmarks and will after its release reinstall my OS again greatly speeding up my tower! using it only for vp pulling as I need off a usb stick. but this table does look as ugly as that on intel graphics mom boards I hate to say it's all of us guys who buy these cheaper computers here in the states they for the most part all have the damn intel crap in them.
