Harry Potter and the Silverball Dream 1.1.0

Version: 1.1.0
Category: VP 9.x Originals

Author(s): Neo

Description:
Update to Version 1.1.0. My first table for VP9. This is meant to be a partial re-imagining of my first Harry Potter-themed table. Built with VP 9.0.8 so you'll need 9.0.x to run it. It should play on 9.10+ without any problems.
Update to Version 1.1.0

Updates:

-Increase point values for targets during general play (non-mode)
-Change table name in savefile in script due to new point structure
-Change the default Ball Saver time to 15 seconds
-Change the default Multiball Ball Saver time to 10 seconds
-Have all shots into the East/West towers count towards tower bonuses and extra balls
-Enable the table to run House Multiball after attaining House Level 5. Every 100 hits on the bumpers after Level 5 is 300,000 points
-Increase the tilt sensitivity range to 0.250-2.000 (previously it was 0.750-2.000)
-Fix issue with stuck ball in the Spell Chamber at the end of Potions mode by adjusting the interval of the timer controlling the diverter
-Changed the slingshots behind the WAND drop targets so they no longer animate, force reduced from 8 to 3, and a new sound effect
-Fixed display issue which would cause a script error if the player's score exceeded 100,000,000. Display now shows the rightmost 8 digits if this happens
-Fixed similar issue with Special Bonus display. It will now show the rightmost 7 digits if the amount to be displayed is 10,000,000 or above
-Added frames around the score displays and some small graphical updates due to the scoring changes
-Adapted Widescreen settings. To play on a 4:3 screen, go into the editor and set the X Scale to 1 in the Backdrop options

Double Potions Pinball Productions Presents

Harry Potter and the Silverball Dream
Visual Pinball Table DPT-9001
Experience Harry Potter's wizarding world with the Muggle program Visual Pinball

The series, locations, characters, and objects from Harry Potter used in this table were originally created
by J.K. Rowling. Special thanks go to her for creating this excellent novel series, and to Warner Bros. for producing the excellent movie version. Game music composed by John Williams, taken from the Sorceror's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban movie soundtracks produced by Warner Bros.

Table was made by a fan of both Harry Potter and pinball, and is not to be sold by anyone

Version Date: 3/4/2011
Players: 1-4
1 Replay at 5,200,000 points (default)
1 Replay at 9,600,000 points (default)
3 Replays for beating the High Score (default)

Author's Notes

This is meant to be a partial re-imagining of my first Harry-themed table. This has some elements of that table but this one is loosely
based around the first four years of the series. The goal here was not to recrate everything that happens in those four years (IMO no single table can hope to accomplish that), but rather the intent is to capture some of the flavor of wizarding world that we saw in the early parts of the series before it gets dark later. The table is built as an 80s-style solid-state machine with with Gottlieb-style displays on both the backdrop and table. These were obtained from Bendigo's LED code table and adapted for use in this table.

The result is a much simpler Harry Potter-themed table with (hopefully) easy-to-understand rules.

This table was built with VP 9.08, so you'll need at least VP version 9.0.x in order to run it. I have also run it in the newest VP 9.1.2, so 9.10+ should be able to run the table with no problems.

See the Table Info for the full rulesheet, or press the 'R' key for a simplified rulecard.
Press the 'T' key to show the replay scores
Press the 'S' key to show game statistics
Press F2 for Help, Press F6 to enter the Option Menu

Thanks all. It was fun to build. I do hope folks like playing it.

Please let me know what you think and if there is anything I could do to improve the table.

I also forgot to mention that I dedicated this table to my friend Elvis who passed away last year, and this table was built in his memory.

Very neat, just played my first game on it. I sucked it up with a measly score of 100,000 :/ lol. Kind of made up for that with 2.78 mil on my second try.

It ran really slowly, but a little click on the HD render box fixed that.

This is a neat one, and I really like it. I love how the angle on the ramps and drops is just a bit off from anything I think I've ever seen. Is there in-game music? If so, I put the music files in the wrong place tongue.gif

Yes there is in game music, they should go into a folder simply called Music in your VP folder.

Just played a couple games myself, and its really well done. Thanks Neo!

I get that a lot when I play and I built it (100,000 or less one game, then 2-3 mil the next). It's 80s-style so it can be pretty brutal (I'm getting where I hate hearing Dudley's little laugh when the ball hits an outlane lol).

The music files should go in the Visual Pinball/Music folder.

Thanks Sabbat. Is the process for getting a score for an original on the VP leaderboards the same as for recreations? I've seen originals in the leaderboards but I've not really seen any screenies for them like I have for the recreations. It'd be cool to see someone put up a good score on one of my tables.

That was weird. No wonder I didn't see a music folder anywhere; there wasn't one. Oh well, I made one and I love the John Williams HP music.

um my music won't play at all. I put it into the music folder but still nothing. The pin really is nothing without the music

Are you getting any of the sound effects, just no music?

First thing I'd do is be 500% certain the music files are in the VP Music folder (on my system it's E:\Games\Pinball\Music, yours may be set up differently)

Also make sure the Play Music checkbox in the VP editor (under Audio Options) is checked and the music volume is set to a level where you can hear the music.

There is also an option in the table that can be set that controls whether the music plays. In attract mode press F6, then use the 8 or 9 keys until you get to Option 14 (the option number shows in the credit display, the value of this option is in the ball display).

Option 14 is the Game Music option, and is either 0 (off) or 1 (on). By default it should be 1. If it's 0, press the 0 key, press the 9 key once (the ball display should show 1), then press 0 again (this should enter the change), then press 7 to restart the table when the text on the lockbar says "Update Complete". The music should start playing again when you start a new game.

If the music's in the right place and the option is set correctly I am not sure what the issue is. Could be hardware-related.

all other tables play mp3's just fine. it's only this one table that I can't get any music at all to play. I have tried everything but no luck. it still plays well, I get sound effects ok but no music. ah well, I'll still fiddle with it from time to time, and it by no means will keep my from playing it!

I found a couple of issues so I fixed them and uploaded an updated version.

I also uploaded a FS version in the originals section if anyone's interested.

Yea, there is a FS version which I also plan to update now that this one is done.

It'll take me a bit to get it updated.

It looks like it's not got to take as much to update the FS version as I thought.

Here's what the 1.1.0 FS version will most likely look like. I actually added a couple of things here that I'm going to have to go back and add to the WS one.

I was having the same problem with this table running terribly laggy. If anyone else is having the lag issue, disable Windows Defender "Real Time Protection" The table should run fine after that.
