Sweetheart Double

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VP 9.x Recreations

Author(s): tiltjlp

Description:
One of only a small number of Double tables known to have been made. Very few images exist. Read Table Information for game history or to review rules. Tables can be played alone or together.

Thanks to Rascal, Al Rubin, for implementing the random green ball/double score routine, and for helping me get both games playing correctly when played at the same time. There are three possible Free Play opportunities on each table, which award 2 balls if hit with a green ball, but only 1 ball otherwise.

The tables play exactly as built, with one exception. If both scores match, either when played separately or both at the same time, both scores double. To reduce the chance of that happening, I have allowed for each pin hit to score 4 points. Both a brighter and a darker playfield image have been included with the game, which can be swapped through the Image Manager.

well this one's different. I never saw a side by side one before. looks tough to code, but good job on it! cool.gif

There haven't been that many Doubles, about a dozen or so as far as I have been able to uncover. I have images for another Double that looks like a cool game. Most of the coding was fairly simple, once I figured out that they had to be treated like two individual tables. The random green ball and tracking two sets of balls did throw me for a loop, but Rascal helped solve those problems for me. It's always good being friends with someone who's much better at coding than you are.

ok I what is the green ball for? is that double value or something? I got it twice now...if it is random guess I have to have a look see for that that would be something I could use...oh btw there are many here who help me with coding I made many friends here and over at pn just by constantly barraging them for these past two years. ok I don't know if they like me or are just trying to shut me up when they post answers, but in my delusional state I like to think of them as friends rolleyes.gif

Almost anyone who doesn't put me on their Ignore List I consider a friend to some degree. As for the green ball, as mentioned in the release notes, it is a random doubler, meaning that it doubles the score for that ball only. If the green ball lands in the Free Play, you are awarded 2 balls. BTW, what I thought was a Double table actually is a Quad game, with four independent flipperless tables. It's a horse racing game with an animated backglass, and you keep shooting until one of the four horses win. If I were to try recreating it, I'd make 1 table playable and three auto-play. First I would have to find a decent image of all four duplicate tables.

back in the 70's I played a horse racing game that was set up in a pinball cab. but it stood alone. (it was at the Jersey shore (New Jersey, USA, for you foreigners!), it used that same back glass set up though, with the four horses all moving as a hole got hit (hint hint, with a kicker that destroyed and another that...well, with drop walls, too it can be done) as a sideways look at them only though. On the table I played each hole shot the horse forward (to the right side) a bit. Certain harder to hit holes shot your horse further than the rest, but you get the idea...

Sounds a lot like Bromley's Derby Dash. From the information I've seen, 1 to 4 people can play, with the unplayed tables being auto-played by the game itself. Seems like the player who can shoot the fastest has the best chance of winning. Just like the old Nags and Hayburner tables, you play until one of the 4 horses win.
