Knockout 2011 4x3 New Release

Version: 2011
Category: VP 9.x Recreations

Author(s): Ash, Bob5453

Description:
Knockout (Bally 1975)

This is the 4x3 day version.

I need to thank Ash for his original VP version and giving me permission to use his work (he also gave blanket permission to the community to use his work with proper credit for non-profit)

I also need to thank JPSalas for all of his techniques and artwork that I use, without his stuff, this table would look similar to the VP editors new table.

I want to thank Freddie for getting me started on this table and Grizz for making me the playfield to use as a base. I also used Rawd’s formula for adding hit sounds to the walls and I used the magnet stuff from his table that Rascal helped him. Thanks to Noah for taking great pics of this table, all artwork was taken from his pics and also thanks to Eala who posted a full table image made from these pics, which I think Grizz used to make the playfield.

This table uses the JP plunger based on Rascal’s creative idea where the plunger is made of balls that have a plunger image on them that move back and forth….

My images are all 1024, I was almost finished when I realized I should have worked with larger images, but live and learn. I replaced all lettering for sharpness, the font looked pretty close to me.

I noticed that I made this desktop version more up and down, it's not inclined so much, I guess I've been playing too much Full Screen lately. It really was hard to get use to this Desktop version and I couldn't handle the normal inclination that I use to use. I made this 4x3 version on a widescreen monitor, so if what you see is different than my screenshot, post a screenshot for me to see, I just resized the WS screenshot to 100x750 to get the 4x3 table screenshot.

I have owned this table since 1976, it’s in my basement covered with boxes and stuff, I turned it on once in the last 15 to 20 years, that was to check to see if you could visibly see the bumper rings when the bumpers were hit. Pacdude said you couldn’t, but he was wrong. I did go down and turn it on a few times while creating this table to check out some things. I added some gameplay that was missing from the original VP release, like the Extra Ball light and Free Ball light rotating On & Off with the spinner spins.

I’ve always wanted to do a VP recreation of this table, but after Ash released his version, it took me a long time to develop enough VP editors skills to compete.

4:3 looks good Bob though I won't be needing it. Looks like they miss out on the background smile.gif

Nice highscore!!! I'm still at 290.

Thanks guys, I released a FS, WS and 4x3 version, so it will be like a poll to see which gets downloaded the most. smile.gif It's a lot of work to do this, not to mention a pain in the ass to make a table that doesn't display right on your own monitor.

Your right Freddie, I tried to put the whole backglass screen on the 4x3 version, but it's just too small, the scoring reels were too tiny, Widescreen monitors are perfect for VP, rather it's rotated or desktop.

There seems to be scripting errors that do not allow the credit reel to reach 9 games causing the variable "credits" and the number on the reel to get out of sync.

By replacing the AddCredit sub with this routine, the problem seemed to get solved.

Sub AddCredit(addCredits)
if credits < 9 and addCredits = 1 then
CreditReel.addValue(addCredits)
credits = credits + addCredits
end if
if credits < 10 and addCredits= -1 then
CreditReel.addValue(addCredits)
credits = credits + addCredits
end if
End Sub

Thanks Sast, I see that now. I think it worked in the Original Ash script, I probably screwed it up. smile.gif I'll add it to a future update, since it probably is this way on all 3 versions I uploaded.

My real table goes to 24 credits, if I remember correctly, but I didn't want to make a 2 digit reel display as the single digits display in the middle and I didn't want to make a single 24 reel display graphic.

How did you like the table?

The table played really well. Extremely easy to win free games though, especially the special in the upper left lane. The graphics are super quality!

Yes, it is fairly easy to win free games on the real machine, once you master it. In VP, the shots are almost always the same, so I had to decide to make one side a little easier than the other, so I chose the Free Game side, rather than the Free Ball side, but I also wanted a person to be able to nudge the ball, from either side, to make it go down the center lane to the kicker. All VP games are easier than the real ones if the shots are possible.

Thanks for spotting the credit numbers.

Very Nice table Bob, plays great, though I had to add the StartShake command to the script, mind you with a nudge of 1 it's hardly visible. wink.gif

Thanks Bob & Co.

Very nice table Bob, it's a Knockout. smile.gif

I play tables in a 4x3 resolution anyway and the table looks and plays fine here on my wide screen LCD. wink.gif

The Widescreen version is much nicer than converting this one. You get the whole backglass and the Match numbers light up in the correct places at the top with each number in a boxing glove and the other stuff lights up in the correct spot also. They are all reels, so not so easy to adjust. smile.gif

The full back glass image would be best viewed on a second monitor in my opinion. wink.gif

I agree with you that the WS table looks better. Thanks again for the new release! smile.gif
