All,

How can I get a numeric display on the playfield. I can get it to display, but it is rotated 90 degrees.

You could use lights. Do text boxes not rotate with the table?

I suppose if the number was single or double digits you could use a custom font that is rotated. It would work for larger numbers, but it would take breaking them down, math to do.

destruk's light segments does a nice job.

post a screenshot please so we can see what you see. It's difficult to offer suggestions when we can't see what's wrong.

Are you looking to do this for an original?
If so - look here: Alphanumeric display tutorial - you can use this technique anywhere...it's just made of lights, so it can be put anywhere.

If it's not for an original...then you probably need different advice.

Dan.

Its not an original. I am trying to get the Spirit table going in Full Screen. A friend has one locally and he offered to take high resolution pictures for me. Before I do that, I want to see if I can get the numeric display going.

Get the pics for sure. Take them from above the table, looking down, a Birdseye view. You can learn how to do anything after you get the pics or someone will help you or you could even share the pics and someone might create the table if you run into problems. Lots of options, but images are the secret to getting tables made.

Hi Barry - take a look at Destruk`s vp8 version of the table.

http://www.vpforums....u...l&f_id=1876

Might give you some ideas - it cetainly has a working on playfield display for the bonus counter.

Cheers Buzz

ps Good luck - looking forward to the FS version already !!

I was going to probably do that anyway, but I wanted to figure out if there is a way to get the display working.

That's the one I am starting with. Right now its an experiment. Obviously, nothing will be released without permission, but I without that scoreboard on the playfield, its a moot point.

I just rotated one of my tables that has displayed digits (made from light segments) on the playfield and they fit into place well when rotated to Full Screen (more like quarter screen, but it rotated). I was very surprised that the backdrop did not rotate, because I had to go to the backdrop section of the editor to find the rotation interface. Is it just me, or... nevermind.

Without knowing how to hook up these light segments, (I did not have to, there happened to be another version of the same table that had then so it was just copy/paste) it may be harder than I though to do what you want.

Maybe you could use a reel.

The problem is that you cannot place reels on the playfield, they have to go on the backglass. and there, they cannot be rotated.

I should have known that by now, that they don't rotate. I did know they went on the backglass, but that they always have, yet have been used in many animated table elements. So basically the backglass, textbox, and reel will not rotate, and everything else does? or is there more that don't yet? I have confidence that all of this will be sorted. In the mean time, go with the light segments, even if you don't know how to hook them up, as I'm sure you will get the help you need, and they do look very good. I don't think a table has ever been unfinished needing of something that was doable and the help not forthcoming.

If you rotate the image they use for the numbers, in the reel, then it's not impossible. It's not easy, but not impossible. If you do go with the lights method, then you can set the on and off colors for custom lights too.

Is there a way to have this tie to the ROM?

Most all of PacDude's tables use emreels for segment display scoring already, so they're already tied to the rom, in his tables. Simply export the emreel images he used, rotate each 'frame', and reimport the image and there you go.

Got it. So now I have the images... Now I just need to figure out how to actually do the script to tie it all together... biggrin.gif
