Ok. I have some more data on the effects of Ambient Occlusion, AA Extreme, and 4x anti aliasing on the VPX beta tables. Basically with all the bells and whistles on and turned up to the max.

For starters, I do not have a strong CPU. I have a 5 year old AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, but I do have 16 Gb. of RAM and an Nvidia Geforce 970 GTX which has 4GB ram.

I have always said VP and FP for that matter are really mostly memory and video card dependent. You don't really need more than an i5 to do what needs to be done.

That said Here is the data I collected running FPS tests on a number of tables with different settings.

First I turned setting all the way up for VP9 and VP9 w/ PM5. Wanted to get a feel for the changes that took place and what it costs in computing power to move to VPX.

In VP9 and PM5, all tables I played with max settings were 500 FPS or better. Doctor Who and Medieval Madness being on the low end with 500 and Def Leppard being on the high with 1100 FPS.

Tommy HD NM came in at 530 FPS. Lets keep Tommy in mind.

When we go to VPX tables I first took the settings that I had for VP9 and tried them there. In VPX you can turn things up a bit with AA Extreme and ambient occlusion, but I did not turn those on. Left everything to match VP9.

What I saw was and immediate drop in the expected FPS. The range was 120 on the low end for Kingpin and 607 on the High for Wild Fyre. Now looking at those two tables one can easily see there is a lot more going on in Kingpin than in Wild Fyre. No doubt about that. But what I did see was and average of 300 FPS from all the rest of the tables I tested. Papa Smurf came in high at 538 and AFM came in at 412. Most of the rest came in between 300 and 375.

That's good you say! Remember, we are going from average around 650 in VP9 to 300 in VPX. Same settings.

Ok, so now we turn up the heat with everything max in VPX including ambient occlusion, AA extreme, 4x anti aliasing and so on.

What we get is a drop by at least half in almost all tables. AFM fared the best with 360 FPS (only a small drop relatively) Most tables ended up between 120 and 160 FPS.

Remember Tommy? Tommy HD in VP9 was hitting 530 FPS average. VPX Tommy with the same VP9 settings- 362 FPS.  VPX Tommy with all the goodies on? 159 FPS.

What does all this prove or mean?  It costs more in the way of memory and computing power to run VPX in general and it  REALLY costs when you want to see it run at max settings. (It is beautiful by the way.)

I'm curious what others are getting from their setups.

Anyway, Hope this helps someone. Cheers.

120fps on AMH with 4xaa, no AO

110fps with extreme fxaa, w/ AO

45fps with 4xaa, w/ AO

I think anything about 100fps is just fine for me, so since I get 110fps with AO and some antialiasing, I'm pretty happy

stutter is the biggest thing, I don't see it much but it's been the thing I've heard most people complain about.

Hey guys, AMH looks amazing. I followed the install instructions but am having challenges with UltraDMD.exe crashing. It has been unblocked etc. I have tested on 2 PCs with similar results using Windows 7.

Checked my installed programs and I am missing this app - Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86). DLoading now. Will report back.

FYI: Download the 64bit for Windows 7 - Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x64)

Update: Windows 7 64-bit should already have these files installed so no need to update\install and it won't let me. So I guess I cannot test since UltraDMD.exe keeps crashing! NOOOOOO! The XDMD Demo.exe works fine :)

Update #2. I added a few files from the Demo directory that I could get working and now UltraDMD launches fine. Here are the files in my release directory:

Update #3. Got it working great on my cab, thanks Fren! The only issue I have is UltraDMD crashes when I quit the table in PinballX, but I can keep going when I get back to the menu. DOF is working great on this table too. Getting an average of 345 FPS on my cab. Wow, great release on VP10!

I was having the same problem with UltraDMD crashing until I tried your fix with moving files from the Demo directory. THANK YOU!

PinballX also crashes on me when I exit the table, and the DMD keeps running.

Totally fun table...I'm enjoying it a lot. Thank you Fren and everyone else who brought this to life!

Hey Knorr, thanks for posting your VP10 of Dirty Harry. Played 5 games on it so far, plays and looks fantastic! Just sent over a pic of the table to a pinhead buddy who owns the real machine to get his reaction :)

has anyone else in AMH had a problem with the kicker behind the door?.... I was talking to fren last night, and on the second or third time the ball would go into this kicker it wouldn't make the loop and fall back to the kicker and would hover over the hole and would stay there.... I did fix this by moving the kicker down a hair so it always makes the loop... I'm just wondering if this has happened with others, and why so many variables from person to person....

I have the same issue now, and if i press 1 then, then VP crashes.

EDIT: Nevermind, i had to start it from the 'normal' directory, not my dev directory.

I would be very very much be interested in fps statistics of Unity3D tables with the GTX970 as I'm also interested in that specific graphics card for my cab... :)

Rename the mp3 with bgout_ in front if that's how they are called in the script?

arngrim, the music pack is named properly in my download, so they shouldn't have to

ah! You did not tell me that part.

a) I've never _not_ made the loop, so that's bizarre and I'm curious what causes that

b) I did notice a bug, that if it kicked the ball out and i immediately hit the ball back into the kicker it would stick, so that's got to be the same issue you're have. I'll take a look at the script and see if there's a timer or something and reduce that if possible.

yeah i noticed this later... but ever since i move the kicker, its worked perfect ever since... cant believe only mine is doing it, that's really weird... I've also play it on my laptop in DT (unmodded) and its never gotten stuck.... craziness

Try adjusting that slider? Can't remember what it's called but it affects physics on some people's machines
