pause button is not really needed since exit button pauses game - but you can use it same as exit key

to do that you would have to use check box in vp key settings - "override pbw defaults" - and set your buttons manually - without using button 7 for anything - exit button must be empty in vp

next put button 7 (Joy7) as your exitkey or exitkey1 in settings.ini in fplaunch section

I don't know what is wrong.

But by pressing "exit" once nothing happens when a VP game is started.

By holding exit, it will exit the game.

What I want is to see the beautiful menu but I can only see it when I have a keyboard connected.

What is wrong?

You don't need new buttons - with shift you can assign additional keys to shift button+some other button combination

i guess shift button keeps it's original function but when you hold shift and press some other button that has shift configured - you get new keys - so with 10 buttons you can have 19 different keys

Exactly. If you don't use the shift button together with another button it retains its function but doesn't send the assigned keycode while you push it. The keycode gets send when you release the shift button.

That's why a flipper button is a bad choice for the shift key, any other button works.

that line only enables ledset and ledclear bat scripts - so check what you have in them - i don't distribute them with fplaunch

Ill take a look but they are the same ones I used with wip9 and never had issues.

Maceman, you have an Ipac2, don't you?
You can always put esc on an shifted key.

I am not sure i understand what you are meaning. Can you explain? Thanx.

Take a look here at the WinIPAC documentation
Picture labeled "Table View": You see on the upper left under "Keycode Assignments" a binding for "SHIFT 1". You can set this to any button on your cab - start key is a good choice. I use the coin button on mine. Don't use your flipper buttons or magnasave buttons here.
Picture labeled "Panel View": You see an option for "Show Shifted Keys" on the left. Here you can program a second keycode or macro to any button on your cab but the one you used for shift.
I use this function for accessing flyers (shift-leftmagnasave)  and instructions (shift-rightmagnasave) on my cab and for buying a Supergame in Judge Dredd (shift-start button).

hmmm. that is wierd. I don't see the shift1 on mine. I thought it looked different. okay, so what to do now :)

No, I have the ipac2.

What i did for now was to map the esc sent from ipac2 to my player2 button which i hardly use...however, although this is now working...i remember a couple games(FP i think) that needs the player 2 key to start...

Is this your screenshot or screenshot from documentation?

On this screenshot i see that you have shift set to P1-Start and blue keys are shifted keys, and escape is a combo P1-start + P2-start (1+2)

So if this is your screenshot you have it all set up for using shift keys.

This is normal behaviour an the explanation was given earlier in the thread.  When you hear the third menu.wav sound it means that everything exited sucessfully and the Hyperpin menu is back in control for selecting a new table.

I've noticed that I'm sometimes getting NVRAM file not found errors when exiting a table, but I don't notice any errors, and all the saved high scores still seem to be in there.  It seems to be showing the correct path for the NVRAM files, so I'm just worried that it won't save a new high score if I achieve one through Hyperpin...

i never saw that message, maybe it is from core.vbs. do you use multiple games on same nvram (nvoffset)?

StreetPreacher,

I am guessing based on what you are seeing, but make sure your path to Pinmane Nvram is setup correctly in the config file PINemHi
that show where your .NV files are located.

Thanks, I'll check the setting in the PINemHI file, that's one file I havent' even looked at yet :)

Also, is it normal to see a drop in FPS when playing tables through Hyperpin rather than directly with VP?  I did a few tests and it seems that I'm losing 100+ frames per second on some tables when they're launched from Hyperpin compared to when I run them directly from VP...

Is it possible that whatever extra background processes that are introduced by Hyperpin are affecting my FPS?  I never did any FPS testing with the older FPLaunch so not sure if this was the case before I update to WIP10...

Other than the performance drop everything else is working great, thanks for all the help people!

Yes, this is my screenshot. I never set any keys up using shift, so if anything is set, it must have been the default set-up.

So...what does this all mean? What is P1-Start? Player1 start= shift key?  I don't think i have try to start using shift before. I use 1 for player 1 and 2 for player 2.

Cheers,

Maceman

this means press 1 and 2 together and you'll get Escape

you said you put esc to player 2 start but you didn't - you put esc to shited player 2 start

oh and p1 start, p2 start, p1 left, p2 left are just signs on pins on the ipac board, so that you know where on the board is that pin

Maceman - dunno if this will help clarify at all but in my case I set my number 1 key/button (which is my start key) as my shift enable and then my 5 key is programmed as F6 (Shifted). Then when I press and hold 1 and then press 5 it acts as F6 (and in my case F6 is a shortcut key to launch HyperPin) which it then launches. Thats the point behind the shift keys. I also have my right nudge and flipper as PG-UP and PG-DN which are mapped to volume so again when I press and hold my 1 Key/Button (which is my start button) and hit right flipper or right nudge it controls the volume etc...

My ESC is hardcoded to the ESC terminal on the ipac2 which unfortunately cannot be used as a shift. I've been meaning to swap that out to the "e" key but just haven't had time. At least then I could use ESC as E and then an alternate shift key on that one as well.

Pretty simple layout (for my cab) but here is how it looks (the 2nd screen at the bottom shows all the shifted keys when I press and hold the green 1 key on the front of my cab). The blue N/A is my ESC wired directly to ESC on the ipac2 and the red N/A is my power (wired directly to power on motherboard) and yellow N/A is Enter. Those cannot be used as shift keys. I should have considered that at first and used alternate keys - then I'd also have a 2nd set of Shifted keys.
