A friend of mine is getting a netflix account and will be ordering Tron for me. As soon as it comes in I will be getting the screenshots and audio I need to get back to work on the table. biggrin.gif

I could have been smart, but I never learned anything by being smart!

I hope you guys weren't suggesting for me to get this movie illegally here. Tron is not public domain as far as I know.

How hard would it be to have a big rotating MCP face at the top of the playfield, where you have to somehow get the ball inside the single opening when it comes around?

I think it can be done with drop targets shaped roundly.

I should know better than to bring up a point that highrise got (imho) unfairly trashed for so eloquently pointing out in another thread, but here i go…

i'm pretty sure that taking the copyrighted sounds and images from the TRON movie is pretty much the same whether it came from the DVD, Netflix or a torrent. The DVD gives you no more right (ie. none) to the material than any other source.

That being said i fully support and encourage these tables to be made. And I am strongly in favour of free creative expression, fair use rights, and yet at the same time, am in favour (within reasonable boundaries) for the need to control copyrighted content and IP.

But I often cringe at the hypocrisy in this as-it-suits-your-needs-morality being thrown around here. If you're stealing the sound, you're stealing the sound, wherever it came from. Let's leave it at that, accept it, move on, and concentrate on making more tables that we all enjoy and create more joy in everyone's lives.

and FWIW, in reference to highrise's plight in the other thread, although i fully agree with him, i do believe that Noah's wishes in the matter did and should supersede any other argument - so i said nothing. (and then one day they came for me, and i could say nothing…)

there is lot of blog or forum.
was just an idea to help you.
now you do what you want of it of courses.

i remember a table "6M $ man" that used original sound of steve and oscar and music, was causing no copyright trouble...

salutations and merry xmas...

oh hey i was by no means suggesting he not use any copyrighted stuff! Most of my pins use just that! As we use a free ware program and as long as we never try to sell our creations for money we are safe from that. But, the actual movie is still copyrighted and has to be actually manually broken into to copy that. so if he finds it, chances are it is a pirated version. but pics and sounds GO FOR IT!!! use google to find anything you need. if it's there you can use it. i also have 'screenshot studio' a free ware pic taking program that even though the pic may be protected and you can't click and save it, i hit something special and take a shot of my entire screen, then going into an art program can adjust or crop as needed! whistle.gif biggrin.gif

oh fyi, a Tron pin was just started in FP

The key thing is that we use images and sound from dvd's for non profit private use, such as making pinball tables with VP which is freeware. We would be in copyright infringement if we use any images or sound clips to make money off of it without permission.

Just remember if you post anything, make sure it is legal, if in doubt, ask. We won't chew you a new one just for asking. biggrin.gif

don't be too sure on that! in the past i used to post without doing a search first. i was often told very 'nicely' by numerous guys here that it has already been answered so do a search for that particular subject first, THEN post an inquiry, or someone may just rip ya' a new one... in a nice way of course rolleyes.gif whistle.gif biggrin.gif

It's in the "Disney Vault" until next year - that way they can release an anniversary dual edition with the original and sequel together for more money. By not having it available it supposedly builds 'demand' for the product. I don't think Tron is worth more than the $5 bin today and the sequel should have been free admission. The video game was 20 times better than either movie. smile.gif

Disney "Vault." Biggest piece of malarky if ever there was one. Disney money vault is more like it.

LOL! I quite enjoyed the new film and will be seeing it again on Monday. smile.gif

Which video game are you referring to? The original Arcade, Arcade Discs of Tron, Tron 2.0 PC or Tron: Evolution? biggrin.gif

The last one was pretty to look at, but had really bad controls.

Sorry to say, Tron isn't available from Netflixs. Availability is 'unknown.'

Was, Arcade Discs of Tron, the stand up cab where you were actually in it? if so, I loved that game, since I played frisbee a lot at that time, i kicked ass on that one!

Yep, DOT was the large step in cabinet. Some were (sadly) cut in half and converted to "upright" models I assume to take up less space.

I played one at an Aladin's Castle arcade back in the mid-1980s. If it was working correctly, the floor would light up when you stepped into the game. smile.gif

Good news! A female friend of mine stopped by yesterday (she had me build a computer from scratch for her biggrin.gif ) and she says that she has the VHS version of Tron. I hope the screenshots will look good after I convert it to dvd to rip screenshots and audio from.

Converting ANYTHING from VHS will not get you "dvd" quality images. VHS is inherently lower quality than most anything on DVD.
My suggestion: Just download the film, and then buy it when it hits DVD/Bluray again which will likely be this coming summer.
Easiest solution, and Disney will still get their money from you in the end.

I am taking a "risk" when capturing screenshots that the images I use on the table will show to inferior quality from the converted vhs, but I need to see for myself how it will look. Worse-case scenario I will wait for the re-release of the dvd. Also have to see if her tape is in good shape, in the meantime I am going to do some work on my Algar WIP. biggrin.gif

It's the original I need and I rather not use compressed video since it can be even worse than VHS quality. I will be checking online again here soon to see if the price of the dvd has come down or not.
