Thanks to Panootz for telling us earlier in the chat. We have discovered that VPForums.org and Noah Fentz are featured in the January 2011 edition of GamePro Magazine. It is a 6page article entitled "Pinball Revisited: The Rise, Fall and Modern Rebirth of Pinball."

It's on stands now so grab it and check it out. smile.gif

We decided this probably wouldn't be a good idea in the chatroom.

Yes, I'm sure Gamepro would not be so happy about it being posted on the site. But if if I can get my hands on a copy, I have a really nice scanner, and would be happy to send a PM to our friends abroad.

Or an email wink.gif

If it's not appropriate for the board, it shouldn't be in our PM system, either.

Thanks.

Yes, it's quite a lot different. People can easily go out and buy a magazine.

Besides, we don't post scans usable to reproduce playfields, as that would be just like posting a magazine scan ... taking away from an industry. We only post playfields at resolutions to be used with VP or FP.

oh, I thought the whole point of the suggestion was that we here in Europe couldn't easily go out and buy a magazine...? and a low quality scan that would only be suitable for web viewing would seem to me to be very similar to a playfield used for VP - i.e you couldn't reproduce it in its original format.

However, in truth you can't pick and choose where you apply copyright rules based on convenience - copyright law has nothing to do with scale, scarcity, or even application, it's simply a question of intellectual property that you don't have permission to reproduce in any form. For example, I can't give someone a copy of a rare album on the basis that they couldn't get it anywhere else. Neither could I justify doing it by only providing them with a low quality recording. So I'm pretty sure that from a copyright point of view, posting a magazine scan at low res is the same as posting a playfield that could only be used in VP / FP. In fact, it's probably less of an infringement because you're not reproducing the whole magazine.

But I'm not crazy enough to think I can actually win an argument here so I'll stop there.

How's this ... We have the nod to do what we do by those with the say so.

You get permission from the editor of GamePro to scan and post it, and I'll be all for it.

I forgot I have to be crystal clear with you, or it always turns into an argument.

So everything on this site is totally legit and approved by the copyright holders? well, if that is the case then well done, that must have taken quite a lot of work. In which case I apologise for suggesting there may have been a bit of rule-bending or double standards going on. I take it back.

Hrmm a lawyer in your spare time? Practicing copyright law? No? Oh....

You want something for free, like always, and when you don't get it... it's double standard this and that. Sniping comments and a blantant disregard for others opinions. Get over what you want, and stop being a douche and acting like a know it all because someone doesnt want the scanned article posted.

I think Noah is doing his best to cover the bases and make no problems for the future over this ( this should be a great moment for VP/VPM not a copyright issue ). You shouldn't have a problem with that.
